Saves money thats for sure.

And whoever heard of the charity for firefighters!

The charity for women who burnt their fingers on the oven!

The charity for kids given wedgies by other kids!

YANBU, most of them are a scam anyway and the charity never sees the money. If I'm going to donate I'll bag the stuff up and hand it in to my chosen charity shop so I know its going where it's supposed to.

bohemimum · 01/08/2012 20:40

I do it!

Mrsjay · 01/08/2012 20:42

YANBU we had a spate of people nicking charity bags round here Shock and we have had scammers, I used them for rubbish bags too

WildWorld2004 · 01/08/2012 20:42

The charities where i am dont take the empty bags back so YANBU to use them. I do it.

OutragedAtThePriceOfFreddos · 01/08/2012 20:43

YANBU. That's exactly what I use them for.

Happiestinwellybobs · 01/08/2012 20:43

Ooh what a good idea :)

RedBlanket · 01/08/2012 20:43

I do. They're usually the perfect size for my bin

Theres nothing charitable about most of them anyway.

Sirzy · 01/08/2012 20:44

yanbu

i am getting increasingly annoyed at the number which are registered businesses not charities

travailtotravel · 01/08/2012 20:44

I look forward to them coming through the door for precisely this reason!

picnicbasketcase · 01/08/2012 20:44

We do it too Blush

MidWeekSlump · 01/08/2012 20:44

Brilliant idea - much better than just putting them in the bin like I usually do.

hermioneweasley · 01/08/2012 20:45

Agreed - given most are scams I take absolute delight in using them!

Mummyof3tobe · 01/08/2012 20:45

YANBU, but I'll warn you they often have holes in them!

SparklingGoldMedals · 01/08/2012 20:46

We get about 4 a week and it makes me really cross. They don't want any bric a a brac/toys. Oh no they only want 'good quality clothes/shoes/handbags'. Hmm

All of our stuff goes to the Cancer Research shop in town anyway.

I already have my 'No Salesmen, Canvassers, Callers sign. feel like adding Charity Bags.

mirry2 · 01/08/2012 20:47

I use the ones without holes as rubbish bags as I'm into recycling

FallenCaryatid · 01/08/2012 20:47

We get half a dozen a week, so I use them for rubbish too.

Morph2 · 01/08/2012 20:47

exactly what i use them for although i turn them inside out as thats what my mum said to do so you can't see its a charity bag!! (you still can)

Mrsjay · 01/08/2012 20:47

we had a childrens illness scam about 5 years ago the council trading standards found the charity bags dumped in a bin at a local car boot sale they were charged and I think some went to prison for it,

TwoStepsBack · 01/08/2012 20:50

I usually fill one genuine charity bag each month but receive so many more that I use them for rubbish bags also.

I see it as recycling.

sneezecakesmum · 01/08/2012 20:52

Thank you I am glad I am not alone in this. At least 2 bags a week and increasing all the time.

DH says the ones from the british heart foundation are the best! A good size and fits our swing bin just nicely thank you!

We have a lot of charity shops in town, I take up a carrier bag and drop it off at a shop.

OutragedAtThePriceOfFreddos · 01/08/2012 20:52

Sirzy, most registered charities are also registered businesses. They can be both and many do because it protects the personal assests of the trustees should the charity fold for some reason.

SparklingGoldMedals · 01/08/2012 20:53

You can Gift Aid at the Charity Shops too so that makes more sense.

sneezecakesmum · 01/08/2012 20:55

TV programme I saw said the 'charities' received a few pence and the businesses pocketed the rest.

But the weird charities make me laugh - never hear of most of them! Grin

The fire fighters charity (formerly the fire fighters benevolent fund) is a charity for
Fire fighters and their families. They help fire fighters who are off of work die to injuries they've received on the job. They provide counselling for partners and children of bereaved fire fighters and for the fire fighters themselves. They can also help older retired fire fighters financially with things like breaks away etc.

Just thought i'd share that with you all! And yes, I use charity bags for the same thing. They're also handy for storing things in the loft Smile
