to not follow MIL's advice?

3 month old baby has diarrhoea and a slight temperature. The doctor said he could possibly have a virus. MIL suggests I feed him cooled boiled water between feeds to clear out the virus. AIBU to ignore her advice? Doctor didn't mention water, just to keep feeding him as much as possible.

My MIL is not vicious, she is just constantly giving unwarranted advice which contradicts any medical advice/facts I've been given. For example, she thought gripe water was 99% alcohol and then when she found out it wasn't, constantly advised us to use it, even though baby just needed a bit of burping. She also told me not to take paracetamol when I had agonising thrush, despite the fact it was the only thing keeping me BF and the doctor said it was perfectly safe.

Basically she loves the world's most beautiful and intelligent baby so much that she feels she has to give advice on everything and she doesn't trust modern medicine. This means I have two conflicting sources of advice and I end up confused because I know she SOMETIMES talks bollocks. Hence why I was asking you all if her advice was bollocks.

'Because MILs are a separate species. Their evolultionary niche is to jeered at, ranted at, mocked, abused and generally derided. No mumsnetter will ever become one, and they don't have feelings, so it doesn't matter what you say to them or about them, or do to them. And they are congenitally vicious, so deserve anything they get."

Slight over reaction there.

Bloody hell! Poor OP has enought to worry about without stupid, fucking "MIL" comments. Tongue in cheek or not.
