I used to have very sore irritated skin on my face, not excema, I stopped using shampoo and just used really cheap conditioner and my face has cleared up.
DH has excema and has stopped using shampoo, for washing he uses dove facial wash, I think it's called, we've run out so I can't tell you exactly. The olive oil he puts in a spray bottle and sprays on after showering and diesn't wash off, it leaves a thin film that gets absorbed

Raerae12 · 01/08/2012 16:40

aveeno is brilliant - both the cream and colloidal oat sachets for the bath, and is available on prescription too!

AmberLeaf · 01/08/2012 16:40

Organic virgin coconut oil pre bath wet them and then reapply post bath.

Get it on ebay for around £10 look for a seller called Akoma. Don't be fooled by cheaper ones they are processed and no good.

Its amazingly magical and seems to work on everything!

habbibu · 01/08/2012 16:43

We've found Epaderm on prescription really good, and you can use it as a cleanser.

squeakytoy · 01/08/2012 16:53

Dead Sea salt in a bath works wonders for it.

DozyDuck · 01/08/2012 18:02

Oilatum didn't work for us. We got diprobath on prescription with double base cream. Sorts it Smile

nickelbarapasaurus · 01/08/2012 18:03

I have a friend who swears by an aloe vera based cream - aloe is a natural moisturizer that also soothes the sin and inflammation - it's used as after-sun.

Pagwatch · 01/08/2012 18:04

Dd tried every single version of emollient but every time it worked briefly then made her worse -way worse.

In the end I used coconut oil. Fucking marvellous stuff.

Pagwatch · 01/08/2012 18:05

Yy. X-posted with amberleaf.

letsblowthistacostand · 01/08/2012 18:08

Change your laundry detergent & don't use any fabric softener. Can't offer advice on bath as only the expensive stuff works for me. Paul Mitchell Baby don't dry shampoo is vv gentle, no itching here, doesn't irritate me or my kids.

Feminine · 01/08/2012 18:10

Coconut oil totally cleared my daughters.
I used it for 3 weeks, 3 times a day and it vanished.

Oh pag just saw you had the same results...its wonderful isn't it.

HokeyCokeyPigInAPokey · 01/08/2012 18:12

DD has Hydrous Ointment and Emovate from the Drs - helps her.

PiggyPlumPie · 01/08/2012 18:18

Will coconut oil help really really dry skin - not exczema - but paper dry and spotty???

Or is that an obvious question???

Feminine · 01/08/2012 18:21

Yes, it will help.

It clears all kinds of skin issues :)

Rikalaily · 01/08/2012 18:25

LUSH dream cream, you only need a tiny bit after a bath and it's like a miracle.

Pagwatch · 01/08/2012 18:28

Feminine

God yes. Dd still has some discolouration/scarring on her legs but it is fading.

Thank goodness we found it!

Feminine · 01/08/2012 18:43

@ pag :) hope it continues to heal.

mathanxiety · 01/08/2012 18:54

The temperature of the water is important. Cool or lukewarm is far preferable to warm or hot. Plain water will hydrate the skin and gentle rubbing with the hand (no cloth) will help remove dead skin and dust, etc. A shower will probably accomplish this aim better than a bath.

If you have hard water, maybe water softener in your tank would make a difference?

Use only conditioner on hair it is possible to be perfectly clean doing this (see 'curly girl method') but avoid sulfates (sodium laurel/laureth this and that) and silicone ingredients and avoid letting conditionered hair get in contact with the skin lean over while doing hair and rinsing.

Aqueous cream will thin skin with prolonged use and not everyone can use it even for the short term.

And I agree with the no fabric softener suggestion. See if non bio detergent helps too.
You can make your own detergent with washing soda, bicarbonate of soda, borax, grated mild soap there are recipes online and fiddle around until you come up with something that works.

Watch out for irritants in your home -- keep it as dust free as possible, remove shoes that can carry dirt, dust and pollen in from outside, and keep them enclosed. Wash bedding frequently and hoover mattresses. A dryer is better than leaving clothes out to air dry.

Pagwatch · 01/08/2012 19:08

Smile thanks and ditto.

RubyRosie · 01/08/2012 19:24

Can you get coconut oil on the high street anywhere?

AmberLeaf · 01/08/2012 19:44

Get it on ebay. (Cocobut oil). High st stuff may be cheaper buit you need the proper organic first pressing £10 stuff.

B loody amazing as pagwatch et al have said.

rainydaysarebad · 01/08/2012 19:47

You can get Aveeno for about £2 from Wilko. I found this out after spending about £20 worth from Boots.
