To not want any neighbours to burn smelly plastic shit in their garden

It smells to high heaven, as does my entire house now (was airing my house like every morning) yuck! Can't overlook the garden it comes from, but it's the second time I've noticed this happen.
Why would anybody think this is a good idea?!? And wtf are they burning that smells so bad?

Try ringing the council poss. environmental health?

WhereYouLeftIt · 01/08/2012 09:25

Check your local council's website, look for environmental health. You'll find contact details there. There are laws governing bonfires.

Maybe also contact your local fire service and ask for advice? It might not be a neighbour's bonfire but vandals torching someone's wheely bin.

There is no side access to the backgardens so it must be a neighbour him/herself. Have no idea if it's from the next street (adjacent gardens) or which number it comes from. I had rung some doors few weeks back when it happened the first time but noone knew anything Confused
Once I find out more will call the council as suggested!

Headache now Angry

I echo what the others have said; contact Environmental Health at the council asap.

Burning garden rubbish is annoying, but burning plastic produces cyanide gas and other nasty compounds. It's a definite no-no and you should get the council involved asap.

elizaregina · 01/08/2012 10:44

You are not allowed to burn anything toxic.

The problem may be trying to get this through the council !!

You need to impress upon them this isnt a man burning a few leaves etc, its toxic you can smell it - there is no time for a diary, they must get someone round asap.

The actual EH team will understand but triyng to get the call center too - to pass on an urgent message is a different matter.

What colour smoke? IIRC white smoke is ok. Any other colour is not allowed!

YANBU! Echo the EH advice.

If I had my way, the complete and utter morons who do this would face a choice between a very heavy fine, or doing naked morris dancing on Blackpool pier. In winter.
