to wonder where to go for school uniform

Nothing logo'd required just your usual polo's, trousers, jumpers. I always buy 5 of each and was all together to take the pressure off!

First year had George stuff and no complaints really but the elastic in the waist of some of the trousers went quite quick but got them replaced under the 100 day thing and they lasted.

Last year I bought m and s but mainly their cheapest range. Trousers weren't very good but everything else ok.

Now thinking about Matalan or Tesco and even noticed Aldi had uniform coming up.

So where is best?

My main problem is the rate he grows at but no shop seems to have came up with an expanding uniform yet!

I did sainsbugs - largely down to stuff I read on here...

RaspberryLemonPavlova · 31/07/2012 21:55

I have used BHS for trousers in the past, but have mostly used Asda for 10 years now. I've never had a problem with elastic or stitching.

I bought DD some trousers from Matalan in June, and the stitching is already going.

I also bought some very expensive trousers from the National Schoolwear shop and had to restitch those too.

anditwasallyellow · 31/07/2012 22:00

I've just ordered two pairs of trousers and two polo shirts from Next on recommendation but no idea if they're any good.

I saw some in Sainsburys today that look good quality and they were a good price 2 pairs of trousers for £8 I think.

Tesco again for us, last years stuff still looks like new, cracking quality and not too expensive

Sainsburys uniform is always okay.

DamnBamboo · 31/07/2012 22:21

I've used them all; sainsbos, m&S, tescos, next, asda and I can say without a doubt that Tesco was the best quality and lasted the best.

In my view sainsbury's and m&S were the worst (both for very differnet reasons) and I will never buy uniform from them again.

Finished my uniform shopping today, with the exception of new school shoes and trainers for PE Smile

OutragedAtThePriceOfFreddos · 31/07/2012 22:26

I found Sainsburys trousers quite good, but M&S crap, never tried anything else because we have to get tops from school.

JoyousJoyce · 31/07/2012 22:29

Tesco for my dcs again this year, finished uniform shopping last week just got to get PE bags (if someone could tell me where to get decent ones please?) and school shoes. Never had a problem with the quality, hardly any wear and tear (especially on the trousers). Very important with two ds's.

CheddarsintheRunning · 31/07/2012 22:32

First timer here. I'm quite excited. Blush

Do I need to sew labels in everything then? I've not done any sewing since Home Economics in the 80's.

OutragedAtThePriceOfFreddos · 31/07/2012 22:41

You don't need to sew Cheddars, but you do need to name everything. Sharpie pen and big letters across the label works best for me as both a parent and a reception class TA.

CheddarsintheRunning · 31/07/2012 23:04

Oh great, sharpie it is then.

And while you're there Outraged Grin, cardigan or jumper? And pinafore-type thing or skirt?
I was thinking a cardigan is easier to turn the right way round.

OutragedAtThePriceOfFreddos · 31/07/2012 23:11

Personally I have boys so we only ever do jumper, but for girls and with my TA head on I'd say it doesn't really matter. Go with whatever you think looks cutest or whatever your dd would prefer. She will be fine as long as you have a couple of practice sessions and let her know she can ask for help if she needs it. There are likely to be children in all different combinations and they will get help when they need it. Most of a PE session is getting everyone changed for the first term!

The only thing I would say is that if you are going with a pinafore, then get one with a zip down the middle instead of buttons on the shoulders.

ohmysilverballs · 31/07/2012 23:15

PE bags - ebay
Girls
Sains for trousers and PE shorts
Anywhere for polos
Tesco for summer dresses
Tesco for skirts / pinifores
Next for tights
Tesco for white socks
Anywhere for cardigans that have the size.........

CheddarsintheRunning · 31/07/2012 23:20

Thanks Outraged

I'll go with whatever she can get on by herself in the shop and what looks cutest Grin

MrsKeithRichards · 01/08/2012 08:15

That's why I like v necks for my son, he's large in the head department!

Asda trousers don't seem to have enough crotch room - I'd better justify that Grin there just isn't enough 'give' when they kick footballs etc and they frequently tear apart. I find I end up double stitching all school trouser crotches before they are used.

Another vote for Tesco or BHS here.
