To tell you all how much I'm loving the summer holidays

They are just fab. I love having the dc (5 and 3) at home all day. I love not having to chivvy people out of the house every morning. I love playing Lego with them (I love it even more now I don't have to play it all the time). I love popping into DH's work to have a picnic lunch with him and the kids.

I love the fact dc1 has just learn to ride a bike. I love that I've just organised a craft cupboard shelf. Oh happy happy happy. Now if dc2 could just sort out this potty training lark, my cup would runeth over!

I love the holidays as well.

I work some of it but have about 4 weeks off........ love love love it.

SoleSource · 31/07/2012 18:42

I am enjoying so far too. Hope it fucking lasts.

weaselm4 · 31/07/2012 18:45

Loving it too, much to my surprise. Mine are 6 and 3 and are playing nicely together for the moment.

And am sooo enjoying not doing three school runs a day. I'm probably a wuss but was exhausted by the end of term.

rubberglove · 31/07/2012 18:46

I love letting my ds stay up late. We have been watching the olympics together and he has been sleeping in, so we have not been having breakfast until 9am.

Love doing fun stuff as sometimes I feel like the nag and the bore, whilst dh who works is seen as the fun one.

Yes love having more time to paint, bake etc. More relaxed routine.

However now in week 6 here and I do crave headspace and peace and quiet. But I know the hols don't last forever and will try to make most of remaining weeks.

rubberglove · 31/07/2012 18:47

Mine are 6 and 3 too. However they are starting to bicker now.

thepeoplesprincess · 31/07/2012 18:49

Are you all pissed?

weaselm4 · 31/07/2012 18:53

Don't worry, peoplesprincess, there have been plenty of "moments". It's just not as bad as I thought it would be.

We have only done a week and a half tho...

ssd · 31/07/2012 19:13

I love it too, but mine are older and do their own thing most days, so I have loads of time to myself (and don't know what to do half the time!!)

SparklingGoldMedals · 31/07/2012 19:18

I have had a day like that ssd. Ds1 (13) went into town with his mates then to the golf driving range. Then DH took DS2 (10) to a museum of dead cars. I was a bit redundant. Sad

gabbymum · 31/07/2012 19:25

It's nice for a few weeks but eight weeks is too long. I love it when September arrives and I get some head space.

I definitely couldn't say I LOVE the holidays - playing lego bores me shitless and the idea of a craft cupboard makes me want to glaze over. Meeting other mums, helpful family members and a couple of weeks away are what makes it bearable for me.

DrowninginDuplo · 31/07/2012 19:25

Not yet the people's princess, not yet.

Oh yes the playing together, hurrah at last love that. Love letting them stay up late if they are busy with something and not having to be the Ogre getting them to bed, (also love the resultant lie ins)

I may be a bit more jaded in a few weeks though...

I love, love, love it too. Ds is 3, but I'm off all summer as I'm a TA. Every day ds has said, 'we've had a lovely day, haven't we. Thanks mum' sooo cute :)

3duracellbunnies · 31/07/2012 21:55

I'm loving this one the most so far, relaxed mornings, not getting up before 7 (even ds seems to be adopting a lie in!). The children have been playing really nicely together in fairy-zombie-dinosaur-chocolate factory-land for a few hours each morning. They keep asking to do summer school (maths games on computer); we've met up with old friends, and watched the olympic opening ceremony 4 times could live without that last one, and I do fast forward it to Mr Bean and the queen parachuting in bits . Thanks to the excellent dd1 baby sitting service for ds I am finally getting some bits done around the house and we have (in date) passports all ready for our 3 week camping trip to the south of france (not everyone's idylic passtime but fun for us). Hopefully reality will kick in at some point before I deregister them and keep them at home all the time!

RaspberryLemonPavlova · 31/07/2012 21:59

Another fan of school holidays here.

SquishyCinnamonSwirls · 31/07/2012 22:06

I cm and am loving the lack of school runs and spending more time with my dd. Just wish I could have the money without all the extra children though. Some of them are very entitled and nothing we do seems to be good enough. My energy is being drained.
I'm VERY much looking forward to our camping trip in a fortnight Grin

UptoapointLordCopper · 31/07/2012 22:06

Love it too, despite having to juggle work and all that. Smile We are going to learn to play the recorder. Grin Poor neighbours.

thekidsrule · 31/07/2012 22:10

YANBU and its great to see others enjoying it to

at the moment its better than last year that was a complete disaster

and i love not having to make packed lunches

thekidsrule · 31/07/2012 22:14

oh and i even managed to clean all the door seals with a toothbrush on the fridge freezer,so a very productive day Grin

they were grim

DrowninginDuplo · 31/07/2012 22:14

Do you know what I"ve got planned for tomorrow? Nothing, it's bliss. Absolutely nothing I have to do.

Glad it's not just me that is loving the school holidays!

brightermornings · 31/07/2012 22:18

I'm enjoying and one I the reasons is I've been making myself get up!! I know that probably sound weird but I've tried to be up by 8 at the latest. I'm only off for two weeks so I really wanted to make the most of it and I have !!

epeesarepointythings · 31/07/2012 22:22

I love the school holidays too. I work f/t, but usually take the bulk of my leave during the summer holidays. This isn't just to save on childcare costs, though that is a factor, it's just because I love spending time with the DDs. So far I have had one whole summer holiday off with them (was made redundant, new job coincided with new term) and I still have golden memories of that summer. YADNBU.

Gorran · 31/07/2012 22:23

Loving it here too. Spending lots of time with friends, picnics, fun stuff, lie-ins - it's all good:-)

DamnBamboo · 31/07/2012 22:24

I love the holidays too! Always look forward to half term and the 2 week stints at Christmas and Easter.

Mine bickered badly last week when we were away and I have to admit it got me down, but I have high hopes for the remainder of the hols Smile

NonAstemia · 31/07/2012 23:23

Have a look around the home ed board - you could be doing that every day (assuming you don't work during term time) if it suits you and your DC. Wink
