Have just heard that during the Olympic opening ceremony, when Sir Tim Berners-Lee was revealed, NBC commentators came out with "Who's he?" and told viewers that they would have to Google him to find out who he was! Which, ironically would have been impossible without his invention, .

But an Americano is a shot with hot water. Not coffee and a shot.

OK Yes some Americans are stupid, so are some British people as are some Spanish, some Germans. There's stupid in every country.
I watch the whole of the NBC cover of the opening and they explained who he was and what he had done, then when it showed him sitting at a desk, they said "there he is" They admitted to not knowing who he was before that night.

Americano is also not the same as black coffee from a filter coffee maker, no matter how much they say it is.

Coffee with a shot might be nice - I'll have whiskey in mine please :)

Tbh you're confusing me. An Americano should have to shots of coffee (so double the amount you would get in a latte, for example, of the same size) and topped with hot water.
Which is different to a black coffee.
I like and Americano with brandy in it. Yum.

All the coffee shops I go to put the same amount of coffee in an Americano and a late, they just put different things on top.

Dprince, you said an Americano was filter coffee with espresso in it. It's not. It's an espresso with hot water in it. There is no filter coffee in an Americano.

And, like Trills, unless you ask for an extra shot of espresso, it has the same as a small sized latte, i.e. one shot of espresso, topped up with hot water.

Espresso is not just the type of bean/grind but how it is brewed.

I had no clue who Sir Tim thingummy was/is and am not American, so some Brits are stupid too (even those of us with 3 degrees and above average IQ). Not knowing a fact is not stupidity, it may indicate a lack of general knowledge but that does not equate to being stupid.

We have an American shop locally. I blame the whole of the USA for at least 7lbs of extra blubber I am carrying around.
