ah but Pip apparently this is done only when the volunteers are relaying the pitch it's done on both the mens and womens volley ball . and it's done to make the tape laying fun and it's a set length of time for the volunteers to work too... I only know this coz someone tweeted about it being in appropriate and someone who was there tweeted back.

pip I went to the beach volleyball yesterday and they only play the Benny Hill music when the rake team come out to smooth over the sand.
