To be annoyed with dh

hugandroll · 29/07/2012 20:05

We have a combi microwave oven but it's simple to see what button does each function.

It was dh turn to do the dishes (he only does them weekends as im on mat leave) so he did ds (12 weeks) bottles and put them in our microwave steriliser. He only put the frigging micro on oven not microwave and melted the lot!

This coupled with the fact it's Sunday do I can't replace them until tomorrow and we only bought new tests for the bottles yesterday means I'm pretty pissed off.

Dh doesn't drive so I've done an emergency dash for Milton to sterilise our two remaining bottles so we can feed our son and will have to spend loadsa money on my credit card tomorrow to replace them when I only paid off Wednesday. Would normally pay from current account but had to buy ds1 school uniform so no "spare" cash as such.

Dh thinks im bu for sitting here with a catsbum mouth and throwing sarky comments his way. I didn't shout and I know these things happen but aibu to be pissed off?

Errr 'your' credit card? Surely family money would be buying stuff like that?

Shakey1500metresloser · 29/07/2012 20:08

Well, YANBU to feel pissed off about it but, accidents happen don't they? It's not like he did it on purpose and probably feels bad enough already.

Petsinmyolympicpudenda · 29/07/2012 20:09

It was an accident, it happens

MrsKeithRichards · 29/07/2012 20:10

I have the same kind of micro and fear this happening!

You'll be ok with two bottles and Milton for some time.

hermionestranger · 29/07/2012 20:12

If you desperately do need more bottles then new Sunday trading laws means your local bug supermarket is open later.

I did something simile with ds1, put my breast pump in with no water and turned the microwave on. So YAbu accidents happen.

discrete · 29/07/2012 20:12

If you have a dishwasher you can just stick them in the dishwasher and they don't need sterilising.

sensuallettuce · 29/07/2012 20:12

Didn't have a microwave when DS1 was born (now 15) - had a cold water steriliser Grin.

You'll survive and accidents happen.

Noqontrol · 29/07/2012 20:15

Yeah i'd be a bit peed off, but these things happen, you cant change it now and its wasted energy to stay angry. For what its worth, i only had 2 bottles for ds and it wasn't too much hassle. I wouldn't bother to buy any more tbh.

Rhubarbgarden · 29/07/2012 20:16

Oh I disagree with everyone. YANBU. I'd be there on the sofa with a catsbum mouth too.

Some0ne · 29/07/2012 20:16

DS is almost 6 months and we manage fine with 1 bottle and Milton!

hugandroll · 29/07/2012 20:16

altinkum he's 12 weeks old and exclusively ff so definitely need more than 2 bottles.

hellonheels it will indeed be my cc but will be our joint account that pays the bill when the statement comes through after next pay day.

Everyone else I know these things happen as I said in my op. guess I am bu so will wipe the catsbum mouth off my face and finish cooking dinner Grin

He was trying to help, it was an accident yabu.
There is still some shops open, bottles don't cost a fortune and neither do microwave sterilisers, surely tax credits should cover it?

KatieisScarlettinSpandex · 29/07/2012 20:22

I did that to mine too. In my defence, I am as blind as a bat without my specs on.

I cheered myself up by going out and buying a much more poncetastic one.

hugandroll · 29/07/2012 20:24

Oh dear seem to have pissed some people off myself. Oh well!

Kudos to those who manage with one or two bottles as I tend to go out during the day I need more than that number.

YANBU

Just because you are on mat leave doesn't mean that you have to do everything. Perhaps if he did a larger share of the chores then he wouldn't fuck up when it was his turn.

'he was trying to help' - WTF? Why should these tasks be solely the mother's job?

SuperSlattern · 29/07/2012 20:33

Hug I'm with you. I have hundreds lots of bottles with DD.

I'd invest in a standalone steriliser. I have bought a fab avent digital one from eBay for £15. They cost about £45 new Shock

What brand of bottles do you use?

hugandroll · 29/07/2012 20:38

superslattern we use tommy tippie. Realistically they don't cost that much it's just annoying to have to replace items after 12 weeks (or 1 day as with the teats).

ali people are right I shouldn't be cross but I agree he wasn't "helping" he was doing a household task which needed doing. We have been Having a good old laugh about this thread and dh is now smug so many people are on "his side" Grin

fortyeighthourdancemarathon · 29/07/2012 20:45

I would be pissed off too! And I'm amazed that anyone can manage with only 2 bottles!

lurkingaround · 29/07/2012 20:48

YANBU. I'd be pissed off too.

And I'd be pissed off at having to mop it up, i.e. get in the car, shop etc etc.
But other posters are right, it was an accident.

hugandroll · 29/07/2012 21:45

Thank you mumsnetters that pointed out there are now extended opening hours. Items all replaced from tesco.

HenriettaChicken · 30/07/2012 11:58

Can I just add my own WTAF to the "He was only trying to help" comment.

Alibaba is right - parenting is a shared responsibility; it's not just the mum's job!

YWNBU - but well done for getting through it and not dwelling!

kinkynagbag · 30/07/2012 12:01

can i add to bottle dont have to be expensive.. you can get bottle for a quid at your local pound/saver shop... they have dont have to be £10 a bottle like tommy tipi lol

id be anoyed to but it was an accideant and let it go, two bottle is more then enough as well.

queenofthepirates · 30/07/2012 12:08

Gawd I melted a breast pump and dummies in my microwave sterilizer, it's easily done.

In short, they're all replaceable, husbands are less easily so so go easy on him. Sounds like you might be taking a bit too much on, try and give him more responsibility
