This woman, who has suffered the absolute worst loss of any human being, the loss of a child.

This woman, who has maintained such absolute incredible dignity in the face of mind-blowing injustice which had the thugs who killed her son laughing at her as they got off with murder.

This woman, who continued the fight, thus changing the face of the criminal justice system of Britain for the better of all of us.

This woman, who got her justice. And because she did, the rest of us can look our children in the eye and tell them we have faith in our country.

This woman, who has overcome her own natural shyness to become an iconic figure in British history.

This woman, who displayed such poise last night. Her son would have been looking on with pride.

This woman, an inspiration.

fact that after a catastrophe bereavement she continued to work to reach and inform others is inspirational
I always feel a residual sadness for her her son brutally murdered by racist thugs

sunnysunnyshine · 29/07/2012 09:53

Watched the opening ceremony and loved all of it,but when I saw Doreen Lawrence I really felt so proud that she was there!
What a terrible tragedy her family has suffered but how much dignity they have shown,Doreen in particular,I had tears in my eyes thinking whoever decided that she should be involved particularly in that prominent place was inspired.
That we have honoured and respected her in that way should make everyone feel good and I hope despite the reasons that ultimately led her to being there that she enjoyed every second of it!

MissAnnersley · 29/07/2012 11:14

Well said OP. She is inspirational.

Really glad to read this.

not fecking Shami thingy though

thegreylady · 29/07/2012 14:28

Just want to agree and support your tribute to a brave and dignified woman .

TwoIfBySea · 29/07/2012 14:36

I'm obviously not getting why Doreen Lawrence was an Olympic flag bearer yet it's Shami whatsit who is getting the eyebrows raised. I guessed that it was a London thing considering the far reaching, worldwide consequences of the others. Surely a human rights activist shouldn't be a surprise whether you agree or not with all her views.

lazarusb · 29/07/2012 14:38

Seeing Doreen Lawrence brought tears to my eyes. I'm glad she was given the opportunity to be a part of that. I like to think Stephen was watching her with a smile on his face Torch

motherinferior · 29/07/2012 14:41

Doreen, of course, YANBU.

TandB · 29/07/2012 17:17

I've met her. She's amazing. I nearly cried when I saw her carrying the flag because there must have been a big part of her thinking "I wish there hadn't been a reason for me to be here."

myalias · 29/07/2012 17:24

A wonderful inspirational woman

EllenJaneisnotmyname · 29/07/2012 17:29

YANBU. Thanks

Growlithe · 29/07/2012 20:31

At least she now knows that her son's life was important to us. It was a long time coming.
