Depends how safe and secure your garden is? It would worry me.

HugeMedalTally · 29/07/2012 16:21

So people remember one child who slept in a tent and was murdered from 1995.

How about the hundreds of children who die every year in car accidents? Are the same people scared to let their children ride in a car?

A bit of perspective is needed, here.

mumeeee · 29/07/2012 16:28

I was just about to say that I wpuldn't let a 13 year old go camping on thier on. Then I realised he was camping in your back garden so YANBU.

Birdsgottafly · 29/07/2012 16:39

You know the area that you live in, so if there is no risk of any usual dangers then he will be fine.

sheepsgomeeping · 29/07/2012 18:28

Well yes I worry every time I drive a car with my kids in it, a boy racernearly took out the side of my car half an hour ago, my kids were on via side, last Saturday my friend over turned her car with her kids in it a mile away from my house, they were luckily ok.

I wont get some perspective thanks all the same.

The Sophie hook murder was awful and it rocked our area, how dismissive of you. I wouldnt let a child sleep out on their own here because we live in a dodgy area with some oddballs hanging about

YABVU!
Think what could happen to him, all alone in the garden at night Hmm

carycach · 29/07/2012 18:36

i think 13 is fine, 7 or 8 not.

SelfRighteousPrissyPants · 29/07/2012 20:21

I slept in the garden all summer every summer in a tent from when I was about 7 or 8! Admittedly that was the 70's but I can't see what the problem could be.

My 10 and 7 year olds are currently camping in our garden with a couple of their mates. They've been out there on and off since they broke up for the summer holidays.

My 7 year old is a bit nervy so I sleep on the sofa bed down stairs within earshot and easy reach of them - our bedroom is at the front of our house so a bit too far away from them if they panic
