... sitting there looking so bored and grumpy last night. Even when the UK team did their parade she looked completely unenthusiastic. Make an effort, woman! We pay you enough.

Then why on earth is she doing it all?

Why hasn't someone said "Y'know what? The majority of poeple of people are going to see her at the ceremony so lets keep her diary clear that day until then so she can stay alert!

Tee2072 · 28/07/2012 09:12

Because when the leaders of 204 countries come for tea, you can't just say 'sorry love, our Queen's just a bit tired. Have another Jammy Dodger?'

Talk about rude.

CelticOlympian · 28/07/2012 09:14

What Cabrinha said. Could have been done better. It was embarrassing that she wasn't even looking at our team.

And anyone who thinks she is noble and cost effective for surrendering the income from 'her' estates, do you think she earned it? The whole family is obscenely privileged. But that is another thread. The least they can do is play the part that comes with the privilege.

That is a good point. Some BBC Producer had her on a screen at all times and chose that exact moment to go to her camera...

Belmo · 28/07/2012 09:21

Not a fan of the Queen as a rule but actually she went up in my estimation last night!

Softlysoftly · 28/07/2012 09:23

Wouldn't be surprised if the BBC did do it on purpose. I missed it as I went to bed she's a trooper

Half the young, fit athletes didn't even turn up at least she did so Yabu she never shirks her duties

lovebunny · 28/07/2012 09:25

its cruel to make an elderly couple sit through all that. they should have let them stay at home, then pop in to declare the place open in few minutes at the end.

NimpyWindowMash · 28/07/2012 09:25

I felt really sorry for her having to stay up so late. She must have been exhausted. It's ridiculous making her sit through that for several hours.

fluffyraggies · 28/07/2012 09:28

Her supporters and detractors here are both in agreement that it's her age that's against her here. It was too much in one day.

Those who sort her diary (and remember this was sorted years in advance. She hasn't become old overnight) should have started to factor this in by now to save her and us from this kind of thing.

I know she had the world an it's wife to tea that day - but it wouldn't take a genius work something out. It's a big family.

What's going to happen in a few years? The Queen still fulfilling all her engagements but will have to be asleep on a stretcher for some of them? ConfusedSmile

Thumbwitch · 28/07/2012 09:30

Softly, I think the majority of the athletes who didn't turn up were the ones who were actually in today's events - reasonable for them not to be up past midnight the day before they're competing, I think.

QueenOfAllBiscuitsandMuffins · 28/07/2012 09:36

TBH I think it was stupid to make all of us stay up that late. Seriously WHY was it scheduled to start that late?

Can't of been good for the atheletes competing this morning either. YEARS of preparation and then, sorry you have to stay up to 1am on the day you have to race. BONKERS.

thebody · 28/07/2012 09:44

I thought Charles and vanilla looked like a pair of giggling teenagers.

I was always very sympathetic to Diana but c and c look far more in live than c and d ever did. Shame.

Agree ceremony far too late but it was great.

Queen has a lovely smile when she is at the races as that's what she's interested in. Also she's old. Time to step aside I think before she goes gaa gaa.

Tee2072 · 28/07/2012 09:54

It was scheduled to start that late because it needed to be dark and the sun doesn't go down until nearly 9 o'clock this time of year.

PenguinFeet1 · 28/07/2012 09:55

I felt sorry for her. She had 4 hours of sitting through music like the chemical brothers, prodigy and the arctic monkeys. She is in her 80's - I bet there were not many other 80 year olds in the audience last night!

mrsscoob · 28/07/2012 09:57

Bloody hell, leave the poor woman alone! She's in her eighties was up way passed her bedtime and had to sit next to David Fuckhead Cameron all night, I think she did remarkably well!

ImperialBlether · 28/07/2012 09:59

She always looks miserable and I think that does look really bad when she's in the public eye so much.

And don't let's forget that yes, she's in her 80s, but she could step down and give her son a chance. I can't imagine how complicated his feelings are towards her.

DontmindifIdo · 28/07/2012 10:00

Tee - you just made me giggle - I love the idea that the serve jammy dodgers when people have tea with the Queen.

I think she's officially old enough to be allowed to be miserable being kept up past her bedtime.

Tee2072 · 28/07/2012 10:01

Well, of course they do don'tmindifIdo! Grin

Cloudminnow · 28/07/2012 10:03

YANBU! It wasn't just the queen being rude - William didn't appear to hide his boredom and Middleton was checking her watch. It's their job to at least look enthusiastic at things like this. As for all the excuses about how the queen is an old lady etc. - she doesn't have to do this, she could easily retire if all this hard work is too much for her. The royals were a total embarrassment in yesterday's ceremony.

Thumbwitch · 28/07/2012 10:13

Queenof - most of the people competing today would not have been in the opening ceremony precisely because it was so late.

honeytea · 28/07/2012 10:44

I think they could have got someone to tell her "smile for 5 mins now we will get all our shots, then you can sit and do your nails for the rest of the night"

At least she didn't do a nazi salute like the German royals.

Tee2072 · 28/07/2012 10:45

It wasn't the Nazi salute!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
