I heart London. Well done!

A lovely spectacle and the human scale was far more attractive than what Beijing put on imo.

4thplaceformathanxiety · 28/07/2012 05:10

Though the DCs thought the doves on bikes were pigeons.

WandaDoff · 28/07/2012 05:15

The DSs would have loved it if they could have stayed awake that long. Grin

YANBU, I thought it was great.

Of course there will always be those who will moan about it and say it was rubbish/embarrassing/pathetic, but they would have hated it whatever happened. Some people just like to moan, I'd like to see what they'd have come up with.

Danny Boyle did a cracking job, as did all who took part

Doyouthinktheysaurus · 28/07/2012 05:36

I had to give up at half eleven but I loved what I saw, really impressive and very, very British. Really quirky and slightly bonkers!

Watching the bit I missed now. Loving the GB bling outfits!

Loving the biking birds!

laracroft2001 · 28/07/2012 06:33

I thought it was amazing!! Beijing - that's how it's done Smile

Lora1982 · 28/07/2012 06:36

exoticfruits · 28/07/2012 06:47

I saw to the end and thought it was great! Unfortunately you are right, givememorecheese.

ColouringIn · 28/07/2012 06:55

YANBU - it was fabulous Smile

TheSkiingGardener · 28/07/2012 06:57

It was great, and the rest of he world seemed to like it too. Lots of foreign newspapers calling us bizarrely barking though, but in a nice way.

glenthebattleostrich · 28/07/2012 06:59

I loved it, thought it was great and really funny

benne81 · 28/07/2012 07:00

Wonderful, fabulous & amazing GrinGrinGrinGrinGrinGrinGrinGrinGrinGrin

Now let's watch some sport. I love the Olympics and it is such an honor to be hosting this amazing event

benne81 · 28/07/2012 07:03

I hope Andrew Lansley & David Cameron was squirming in their seats - NHS is to be treasured, not to be ripped apart

Hulababy · 28/07/2012 07:05

Was fab. We all enjoyed it, ESP 10y dd. it was very British and rightly so. So much better than just some glitter and glitz.

scummymummy · 28/07/2012 07:07

I thought it was dead good.:)

Were they birds? I thought they were fireflies?

AnathemaDevice · 28/07/2012 07:07

I was expecting it to be a bit embarrassing, to be honest, but I was pleasantly surprised. I don't do national pride as a rule, but it made me feel proud to be British. It was moving, funny and utterly spectacular.

My only complaint is that they didn't show more of Frank Turner during the pre-ceremony warm up, but the fact he was there at all left me with a great big grin on my face.

yellowraincoat · 28/07/2012 07:07

I thought it was great. The cynics who moan that it was cringey or stupid would moan whatever they did. I loved that it was a bit haphazard, it could so easily have just been a corporate thing with some gymnasts and dancers. But it looked great, brought a tear to my eye more than once.

HKat · 28/07/2012 07:43

Agree - awesome. The way they managed to completely overhaul the 'green and pleasant' set to the industrial revolution one was incredible.

Rosa · 28/07/2012 08:28

Am sitting on the fence, for British people it was good, some great bits but I wonder if in the translating round the world it would all have come accross how it was intended to be.
Can somebody explain to me in 'Abide with me' what were the dancers representing - I diddn't get it , mind you I had been on the wine!

CMOTDibbler · 28/07/2012 08:28

I loved it, and was strangely moved by parts like the Chelsea pensioners and Doreen Lawrence.

loverofwine · 28/07/2012 08:30

YANBU

It was wonderful, subversive, triumphant, poignant and a lot of fun.

Feeling very proud to live in the hotbed of creativity which is the UK (even if my personal creativity only runs to being able to serve up mince to small children in a myriad of different yet healthful and yummy forms....)

WerthersUnOriginal · 28/07/2012 08:31

Rosa I didn't get that bit either. Or all the beds Confused. Dc and I stayed up to 11.45 and gave in. It started too late imho.

maillotjaune · 28/07/2012 08:35

YANBU and I normally hate these things. The only opening ceremony I remember sitting through in full was the Lillehammer one with trolls coming out of the hills.

This had the same feeling of nuttiness so obviously people expecting gymnasts and fireworks will be disappointed but anyone can do that stuff.

EthelredOnAGoodDay · 28/07/2012 08:36

I think the dancers and the abide with me bit were to represent those who died in the 7/7 bombings.

QuickLookUsainBolt · 28/07/2012 08:36

Agree, I thought it was bloody fantastic, especially the green and pleasant land to industrial bit.

Well done everyone who planned it and made it happen. Thanks Torch
