Putting actual in the middle of every sentence?

This is really starting to baffle me, Scott Mills has been doing it for years and out was funny at first because he was taking the piss out of someone he knew who over used the weird, is this where its came from?

I just don't get it, what am I missing?! :o

The point, actually Grin

Haha, I know what you mean. It's just a vocal tic that has wormed its way into the vocabulary of the U30's, it makes no sense apart from emphasising the point you're making and making you sound like a tit.

I can't talk though- anytime I'm in work and explaining something to someone I start with "basically". I've tried mixing it up with "essentially" sometimes, but I just can't break the habit. Actually. Wink

JumpingThroughHoops · 27/07/2012 17:21

At this moment in time. "in time" is superfluous. "At this moment" suffices.

Sorry. I had no where else to mention it Grin

tartyflette · 27/07/2012 17:22

It's just for emphasis, like, you know.....
Actually I'm guilty of saying 'absolutely' instead of 'yes' and I hate it. But it just slips out.

tartyflette · 27/07/2012 17:23

Or even 'now' Jumping

MarysBeard · 27/07/2012 17:23

It's totally, like, you know, random.

RubyFakeNails · 27/07/2012 17:24

Its the same as literally, like, basically & you know (what I mean).

Its one of those phrases or words, it doesn't really add anything but people use it all the time.

nickelbarapasaurus · 27/07/2012 17:25

i say "like" or similar because i'm trying not to swear bloody MN and its swearyiness

MardySkimpyBeachVolleyballBra · 27/07/2012 17:26

I once dumped a boyfriend for overuse of basically.

peanutMD · 27/07/2012 17:27

I'm only 25 should I be doing it too? :o

I just like soooo don't geddit, is it actually an actual vocabular fing then?

SparklingGoldMedals · 27/07/2012 17:28

Is it worse than 'off of' though? As in Scott Mills 'off of' Radio One? Angry Grin

MedalsTrumpDiamonds · 27/07/2012 17:30

DH constantly gets on my case for saying "if you know what I mean"

He's right though, I've noticed I say it all the time, IYKWIM.

Grin
Numberlock · 27/07/2012 17:33

Scott Mills is a legend! So disappointed I rarely get to listen now he's moved.

Actual Numberlock off of Manchester

grammar · 27/07/2012 17:36

'Meet with'... meet suffices.

SparklingGoldMedals · 27/07/2012 17:36

I like Innuendo Bingo, and the posh lady that reads the texts. Grin

peanutMD · 27/07/2012 17:39

I have words that I over use too, I can't think what they are though...

I don't mind Scotg Mills doing it (I'd let him away with murder though :o) as its for entertainment purposes but its just odd when people start a seemingly normal sentence then chuck in the 'A' bomb lol

OP posts:
Numberlock · 27/07/2012 17:43

Me too SGM - the PR4L Smile

Cremolavelodrome · 27/07/2012 17:45

As in
What the actual fuck is going on

That?

peanutMD · 27/07/2012 17:49

Innuendo bingo is brilliant, have had many a bizarre state when walking down the street with my earphones in trying not to laugh very loudly!

And yes stuff like that.

We need a separate Scott thread, best thing on Radio 1 since Mark and Lard

MrsKeithRichards · 27/07/2012 17:57

Actually is actually one of the most useless actual words in actual use

It actually doesn't actually mean any actual thing.

You could actually put it just about anywhere in a sentence and kt doesn't make an actual difference whether it's actually there or not.

SparklingGoldMedals · 27/07/2012 17:58

It literally doesn't actually mean anything Keith. Grin
