DH is in a mood with me cos I wasn't particularly bothered about drying DD's hair after her bath (she's 2).
It's 28 degrees in her room. I said it'll dry in no time. He rolled his eyes, told me to stop being stubborn Hmm and said you must always dry wet hair whatever the temperature, as DD mustn't get her bed clothes wet.
I think he's overreacting just a tad.

Who's right?! me obviously

Did someone break his hands or is there another reason he didn't dry it himself to save her from the trauma of going to sleep with nice, cool, damp hair?

He's talking rubbish. I never dry my hair ever! If I did I'd look like I'd stuck my finger in the electric socket.
Even as a kid, no heat upstairs my hair had to dry out naturally to avoid the frizz bomb look.
Colds are caught from virus, not from temperature.

Yanbu. My aunt used to blow dry my cousins' hair when they lived in Africa! Ridiculous. I never blow dry my hair, or dd's day or night in the summer. Far too hot.

I just put a dry towel on Dd's pillow before bed and she's fine. Sometimes I give her a quick shower before going out somewhere during the day and that's when I use a hair dryer in her hair. My mum always insisted that hair driers make hair weak at the root if you use it on children and one must never use one. It's stuck with me.

Ugh I wouldn't go to bed with wet hair, so definitely wouldn't allow DC to do so. It's umcomfortable and my hair is thick so takes about 7 hours to dry without a hairdryer. But if your DC are comfy, can't think why not.

He's talking crap. Tell him to google it and when he finds a link to NHS Direct that says children should never be put to bed with damp hair then you'll listen to him. Or as others have said tell him to do it himself.

I regularly go to bed with damp hair and have suffered no ill effects. Admittedly I often wake up looking like I've stolen Tina Turner's hair but a quick session with the straighteners sorts that out. And in this weather having cool, damp hair when you're trying to get to sleep is quite pleasant! Then again, having central heating means that even in winter going to bed with damp hair isn't a problem.

I never dried toddlers hair with a hairdryer YANBU and why couldnt he dry her hair if he was so bothered

doinmummy · 25/07/2012 23:52

It's absolutely fine to go to bed with wet hair...quite nice in this heat too.

Mrsjay · 25/07/2012 23:54

DD is 14 and goes to bed with wet hair she has never been struck down with wet hair pneumonia

Brandnewbrighttomorrow · 25/07/2012 23:58

I always dry my kids hair before bed, but mostly because the only times I've gone to bed with wet hair as an adult have resulted in me waking in convulsive shivering fits. To be fair both times were post surgery so I suspect that had far more to do with it, but I am still happier if they have dry hair. I don't get massively worked up about it with our youngest though as she absolutely hates having het hair dried. So I'm sitting on the fence on this one

Mspontipine · 26/07/2012 00:00

I remember reading (goodness knows where??) if you read in bed with wet hair you can catch bookworm - assume that's only from old dusty tomes and your dd is unlikely to be leafing her way through an ancient copy of War and Peace!!

aliportico · 26/07/2012 00:11

I would think it more U to blow dry a toddler's hair.

NoComet · 26/07/2012 00:12

My DDs often go to bed with wet hair. DD1 mostly because she's lazy and DD2 with elaborate plaits so it goes wavy. DD1 does plait hers too.
