Aibu to think parents with children under two should use little swimmers

Went swimming to day had a fab time until somones child shat in the pool in was an enclosed pool and full of small children and no one would own up we showed the life gaurds our child was wearing swimmers so we were allowed to leave but wtf small children are prone to have acidents so why would you not buy the bloody swimmers

We have a fair idea which parent and child it was i felt sorry for the staff who had to jump in and fish it out and it had broken in to pices Confused

the little swimmers nappies are perfectly ok to rinse, dry out and reuse. as long as they haven't been poo'ed in.

Ithinkitsjustme · 24/07/2012 22:21

They didn't even have Little Swimmers when my older kids were little. None of them ever poohed in the pool. Maybe more people would use them if they didn't charge so much for the things!

StetsonsAreCool · 24/07/2012 22:22

Swimming nappies don't necessarily contain poo anyway (I've seen it, not DD thankfully). Once the poo is in the water, inside a nappy or otherwise, it disintegrates and is gone to all corners of the pool

The only thing that helps is the neoprene top nappies, but they're pricey. We never go in a pool with them.

cece · 24/07/2012 22:24

All 3 of mine have had phases of pooing the bath, so always put mine in swim nappies!

BikeRunSki · 24/07/2012 22:31

YANBU
Warm water is usually bound to make my DC poo!
Our pool gives out swim nappies for free to U3s.

WorraLiberty · 24/07/2012 22:38

I'm surprised the staff jumped in the pool to fish it out.

When DH and I went on holiday a couple of years ago, the pool was shut for a couple of hours because some kid had shat in it.

The staff said, when that happens it has to be cleaned and then some other chemicals put in...then they have to do water tests after an hour or two.

Apparently it was the second time that week they had to close the pool.

The last time I went to the local pool there was a mum and little girl just getting out. The little girl said to mum "Oh can't go yet, not had a wee wee", she then climbed back intot he pool while mum watched her pee.

I didn't say anything but got out pdq.

Well my phobia of public pools continues for another day...

PeppermintCreams · 25/07/2012 07:37

Yuk!

When my son was a baby we did swimming lessons and the teacher made families who didn't come in with swimming nappies to go back out and put disposable ones on before she would let them back in the pool. They work just as well for containment, but fill up with water very quickly.

Our local splash park sells them for cost price (50p) and the swimming pool sells them for £1 in case you've forgotten one.

FartyMcTarty · 25/07/2012 07:46

YANBU (great image of hostage swimmers too!) but I think the problem may be that lots of swimsuits are marketed with an integral swim nappy, which is bollocks, frankly. I expect some people take the claim at its word. Once.

ErnesttheBavarian · 25/07/2012 08:16

How do you know they weren't wearing a swim nappy? Not all swim nappies look the same. Some people put normal shorts on top of nappy etc etc.

That said, I always used swim nappies, but despite that , we still did have 1 or 2 v. embarrassing accidents. On one occasion, ds2, who had shown no sign of an upset tummy, otherwise of course we would def not have taken him, did a rather 'unsold' poo, and we were good and owned up, and the lifeguard basically handed dh a fishing net. I was mortified.

other time dd did a poo (she was 2). She climbed to the top of the slide and as she sat down I saw it. I told her to stop so I could get her but she is stubborn.... Blush Blush Blush As she sat, her nappy must have swivelled a bit, and she sailed down the slide leaving a wide brown stripe. OMG I was so mortified. I went off to report it and tell the life guards and get paper towels, but thane I came back, all the other kids were zapping the poo off with water pistols Blush The shame.

Thanks God they are all continent now.

Little swimmers on their own don't seem like much protection to me, I think they need a neoprene HappyNappy type thing as well. My DS has pooed in the bath. In fact, when we used a tummy tub he used to almost every time!

BranchingOut · 26/07/2012 22:53

I just don't understand why more people don't go for the 'Happy Nappy' type, they cost £10 and stretch, so last for absolutely ages.

Stardust01 · 26/07/2012 23:44

Omg Ernest, that made me laugh out loud, about your dd and the slide!
