Yesterday I was at the park with DC when I saw another family enter.

The had a small boy with them who REALLY looked like DS2!

They both had long(ish) blonde hair cut in the same style & blue eyes.

The were both wearing sandals & long denim shorts, the only difference really between them was that DS was wearing a red shirt and the other boy was wearing a blue t shirt.

I even found out, through casual conversation, that they have the same name! DS2's name is quite unusual so finding another child with it is quite funny but coupled with the looks it was just so weird!

They almost looked like twins, if you saw them running around together you would have thought they were brothers!

The most exciting thing though was that this other boy really seemed to like DS and was making a bee-line for him the whole time he was in the park. Since DS has ASS it is quite hard for him to make friends and play with others and they got on so well it gave me hope that when he starts school in sept he will be able to make friends with the other kids :)

Not really an AIBU but oh well!

Sorry, that should be ASD not ASS!

Stupid phone!

how lovely, I hope they are in the same class.

"I hope they are in the same class."

Grin I bet the teachers hope not! twins is confusing.. non twins who look like twins but have the same name would just be too much for them Grin

It is great watching kids interact with each other though, I find it fascinating when two kids meet who have never met before and they start playing. :)

I hadn't considered the possibility they might end up at the same school, we were at the local park so I guess there's a good chance :)

I like to think that other children are attracted to his bubbly, sunny personality that shines through despite his ASD. I hope that at school they will overlook the fact that he can't communicate very well and be his friend because he's always happy and generally nice to be around but he is my son so I am biased!

We're the other family as excited as you were? I would've been!!

My DS had a "twin" with the same name (though fairly common one) and birthday when he was 2-3ish. We regularly saw him in the park and they played together. It was v v cute.
DS is now 12 and I'd love to see how the other boy has turned out and if they still look alike but their paths haven't crossed for years now.

The other family didn't seem that fussed but I was! Maybe they were but just didn't tell me....

I would so laugh if they had the same birthday!

Baby doppelgangers! Yay!

That's lovely your son made a friend. My DS has ASD and I'm always thrilled when he makes a friend, even for a short while.

It's the little things that other parents take for granted, we cried in MaccyD's the other day when DS ate some hamburger!

So, no, YABU

smellyolddog · 24/07/2012 22:06

that sounds lovely!
