to ask what you think of a mum leaving her baby home alone everyday for the school run?

A mother left her 7 month old baby alone for 40 mins every morning and 20 mins just before every lunch to do the school run. She claims she did not know it was illegal and struggled to get the buggy down her front steps. She has received a 12 month community order and the judge commented that even David Cameron had once left his daughter in a pub. I will 'try' to add a link-www.google.com/search?q=mum+left+daughter+to+do+school+run&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&hl=en-gb&client=safari It's here and in the DM.

Do you have sympathy for her situation? Do you think this is a reasonable punishment, after all would a custodial sentence have served any purpose? Or will this sentence mean more children are left in vulnerable situations? And, finally, what's it got to do with the Camerons?!

I'm not a journalist! Boy, you lot are a cynical bunch! (Secretly feels a bit pleased that's she's mistaken for one. My writing can't be all bad!)

Lol at Viva

I get MW and JK mixed up too!

Birds, this isn't putting the bins out though. Taking this thread at face value, I think she was taking a huge risk (and am I the only one wondering why 40mins in the morning and 20 mins at lunch but no afternoon?)
Nothing remotely like leaving an 8 year old in the pub once by accident.

StealthPolarBear · 23/07/2012 16:25

well OP, what do you think?

VivaLeBeaver · 23/07/2012 16:28

I think the mother in question is a silly arse.
I think its a reasonable punishment
I don't think a custodial sentence would have done her or her baby any favours or served a purpose.
I don't think the sentence will mean more children will be left as I think the actual sentence will be a deterrent and the sentence raises publicity of the fact its a daft thing to do.
Its bugger all to do with the Camerons.

Thanks birds for posting the link. As I'm new I'm not sure how to do it!
Thank you for not being too quick to judge Olympia. I'm just very used to writing ops on another site so I guess I sound a bit journalisty. I've developed my own way of doing it!
Ruby- I agree with you. I'm wondering whether this mother be left in charge when she can't work out how to fold a buggy.
My opinion- well it's as above really. I can't see why she didn't fold her buggy or manage somehow like the rest of us.
As for what it's got to do with the Camerons... That's the point! The judge likened this mother to David Cameron when he left his daughter in a pub the other month. It was a one off and she was 8 years old. Hardly the same as this I agree!

I think its kirsty from Matthew wright. You know the one in the booth?

liketochat1 · 23/07/2012 16:36

Isn't she really pretty?!! If she is then yes, that's me definitely (insert happy smiley). Haven't worked out to insert them yet either... Perhaps I can't on an iPad?!

Can't really comment about the prettiness. I think so but then I went to college with her and she is a nice person, one of those 'personality shines through' kind of gal.
I can't get the link to work.

Convert · 23/07/2012 16:51

Why would it take her 40 mins in the morning and only 20 at lunchtime.
She was DBU if she was stopping off for a coffee in the morning Grin

liketochat1 · 23/07/2012 16:55

I haven't seen MW's show for ages. I will take being likened to someone with a nice personality then. It beats all the jour no suggestions! I'm an SAHM with 3 children.
Convert- I'm guessing she had to drop off two in the morning and only one at lunch. But then what did she do in the pm with the other pick up?!

Why is this in AIBU?

Surely better placed in In The News

OP, MN is so much more than AIBU, you ought to try it

liketochat1 · 23/07/2012 17:22

I've only been here for a few days raisin. I will go and read The News. Thanks for the tip. I might well enjoy it!

Under the box where you write your message you can see how to click to get a link converted.

Under that is describes how to do :)

Glad she didn't get custodial, but sounds as if she needs help :(

liketochat1 · 23/07/2012 17:42

Thank you Hope. It seems obvious when someone tells you but there is so much info to take in at first. Let's hope I get it right next time. I've had a look at in the News Raisin. I think I will like that as well.

liketochat1 has phrased the OP very much like a researcher would

liketochat1 · 23/07/2012 19:16

Well... I have done lots of research in my time! What's made you lot so suspicious? I'm gathering you've had your fingers burnt with researchers and journalists before. I dread to think what's happened!

OP posts:
TheCraicDealer · 23/07/2012 19:24

Maybe the 40/20 discrepancy was because in the morning the traffic was busy with the rush hour, but it eased up by lunchtime pickup?

The judge who sentenced her likened the situation to the Cameron's- because thinking your DD is with the other parent once is exactly the same as habitually leaving a baby in a house alone Hmm
