To refuse to let OH bring our kitchen chair back inside tonight.

Tallalime · 22/07/2012 20:05

Despite my incessant snarking gentle protests, OH has taken one of our kitchen chairs (cheap pine crap) outside today so he 'has somewhere to sit while he smokes in the garden'. I asked him to bring it in at about 3pm as we were going out and he 'forgot'.

We got back a while ago and I have just been outside and watched a little spider (about the size of a sunflower seed) build a MASSIVE web between the fence, windowsill and kitchen chair. The web is the size of a dinner plate, it's taken him ages (and he had to fix it twice as a couple of bluebottles flew straight through it).

I have told OH he has to leave the chair there now as it seems mean to move it given all the effort tiny spider has put it...it's a prime web spot, he's a canny wee spider!

OH says I am being ridiculous and it's JUST a spider.

I've asked him how he'd feel if he build a fabulous house, that took him forever and an alien turned up and knocked it down because he built it on their space ship launch pad.

OH says I'm insane.

It's a stand off.

AIBU...am I?

*disclaimer, I've had a drink or three and I like spiders.

He's taken another chair out the fucker.

OH, not Frances/Francis.

I'm strangely fascinated to know the eventual outcome :)

I've left my rotary airer thing extended because of all the pretty webs that appeared on its arms today. Might have to get up early to admire the sparkly look!

I need a life.

garlicbutter · 22/07/2012 20:52

Two chairs! That's lovely, you can laze out in the summer evening (2012, singular) together, watching spideys build their webs.

Tallalime · 22/07/2012 20:53

That's a good point, Hassled. Poor chair. sad Maybe the OP's OH could hold an umbrella over it during night, in case it rains.

That would give him something to do with the 'designer' umbrella he got with his coke zone points... I will suggest it to him.

I expect he'll mutter something about work tomorrow and etc... at least he has a job. Frances/Francis is facing eviction FFS.

I loathe spiders with the heat of a nova. BUT, and this is one of those never to be repeated moments, on this point I am with DSpider. Hard work trumps lazy arse forgetting to bring the chair in.

And DP should stop smoking too. Think of the spider lungs FGS!!!!!

TheVermiciousKnid · 22/07/2012 21:00

Yes, definitely no smoking near the poor spider! Is Frances/is not entitled to benefits? A permanent web? He/she might even be entitled to a goat. (If it's one with horns, he/she could build a nest between those!)

TapirBackRider · 22/07/2012 21:02

I completely hate spiders, but this is now his chair; he's wanting to catch his dinner!

boneyjonesy · 22/07/2012 21:09

But what about being kind to the poor flies who it's going to kill. Why are the spiders effortsmore important than the flies' right to live?

RuleBritannia · 22/07/2012 21:11

Just be thankful that you haven't got ants. I found some on my kitchen window sill, found the incoming tiny gap, sprayed Nippon there and went outside to see where they get in. Found the spot and put more Nippon there. Went back indoors and they had found a diversion further up the window frame so I sprayed Nippon further up and went back outside to look. Anyone can tell where ants nest on the ground so I had to deal with about 20 feet worth of dragging a trowel along the wall/paving slab division to disturb them and there were so many ants I couldn't believe it. There were red ants (I have bites to prove it), ordinary ants, small flying ants and larger flying ants.

What, for Heaven's sake is one spider which is of benefit to the garden?

Unfortunately, I was gently told off by a neighbour (whom I have known for years) because, while I was on holiday, he saw green woodpeckers in my garden eating ants!

Hassled · 22/07/2012 21:13

Yes, yes - the flies. Will no one think of the flies?

WHAT IF FRANCES HAS DCS TONIGHT???

Won't somebody think of the (spider) children???

hiddenhome · 22/07/2012 21:27

It's weird, but we have olympic ants. There's hundreds of them running around the rim of our wheelie bin when I open the lid. They appear to be in training and just seem to run round and round.

Tallalime · 22/07/2012 21:29

Well I've had a closer look at Frances/is and s/he's dead slim so I don't think any spiderlings are imminent but it's definitely something to consider.

OH is adamant that the chair has to come in in a bit. I may have to stage a sit in... conveniently there's already a chair.

IllegitimateGruffaloChild · 22/07/2012 21:54

PMSL @sit in!

cheeseandbiscuitsplease · 22/07/2012 23:36

It's no good asking me...I got teary eyed last thursday when I threw my little fellas infant cardi in the bin. Even gave it a little kiss and said bye bye. 😰

Tallalime · 22/07/2012 23:44

Both chairs are still outside...am I happy about the first chair or pissed off about the second...

SPsFanjoLovesRussellHoward · 22/07/2012 23:49

Can't you bring the spider in with chair. I'm sure DSpider won't mind building another web in your home.

I don't like spiders at all. There's a spider living in my sons room. It's built a web in his tent. I'm not allowed near it. My son goes in and looks at him for minutes at a time.

He.tried bringing his dinner up to it tonight. He has,put a teddy in the tent for him. Spider is called Pedro.

kickingKcurlyC · 23/07/2012 08:33

Pedro and Frances/is are both lovely names for spiders. We should ask for a 'Spider Names' board.

redrubyshoes · 23/07/2012 08:45

Scottish history could have been so different if it wasn't for a little spider

Do NOT move the chair. Britain depends on you!

IllegitimateGruffaloChild · 23/07/2012 08:57

And how is the family this morning?

Tallalime · 23/07/2012 14:22

So he bought the chair(s) indoors last night bastard.

He claims that a mosquito flew into the web and whilst Frances/is was bunding up and killing said mosquito, next doors cat noticed it and tried to kill it, destroying the web and probably Frances/is at the same time.

I am dubious, my left eyebrow is perma-cynically raised. I will be sure to look out for poor spider living on ND cat when I see her next.

In the mean time WIBU to go over OH's clothes for signs of web...

Condensedmilk · 23/07/2012 14:28

Oh Sad
Leave the bastard.
