Didn't see it. Assume they were talking about dha or parabens. Maybe try to find one without parabens?
They aren't as bad as sunbeds or sunbathing. If we worried about everything supposed to make us ill we'd never eat, drink etc.
Whack on your tan my love if it's from superdrug :)

MistyRocks · 22/07/2012 20:15

quite scary really Confused

Sorry, but I've been waiting for this to break for ages. It seems pretty obvious to me that plastering yourself all over with a chemical preparation is bound to cause some kind of reaction...

ENormaSnob · 22/07/2012 20:26

Have you got a link to the research about this?

Tbh I wouldn't worry, you can't fart without it being carcinogenic to someone.

carycach · 22/07/2012 21:34

well people say that about sun screen as well, that an increase in skin cancer over the last couple of decades is linked to increase use of sun screen.

MistyRocks · 23/07/2012 09:47

Daily Mails A-Z of what causes cancer

tryingtoleave · 23/07/2012 09:55

I've always been nervous about putting dye all over my body. I bought a bottle of fake tan last summer but never actually used it.

HmmThinkingAboutIt · 23/07/2012 10:12

Everything gives you cancer.

But whats wrong with pale and interesting anyway. Never have got the need to cover yourself in a layer of deliberate dirt.

Mrsjay · 23/07/2012 10:19

oh you cant even go out in fresh air these days without it causing cancer , I am not trying to trivalise cancer but you cant do anything eat anything without it harming you, saying all that putting something that dye your skin cant be great for your skin try and not panic though as you said it was the sun and they do dramatise everything,

DollysDrawers · 23/07/2012 10:21

Everything is bad for you these days. I wouldn't think that constant dyeing of the skin would be particularly good for you but that's just my opinion, I'm not in the know so to speak.

AgathaFusty · 23/07/2012 10:34

Try Vita Liberata - just bought some as read the same thing in the DM (oh, the shame!). Apprently the VL range of fake tans doesn't have the nasty shite in it.

They sell it at Amazon, Boots, House of Fraser.....

Avalicious1980 · 23/07/2012 11:18

Same here, 32 years old and 37 weeks pregnant with baby no 2. I'm a natural ginger (and proud) but I look the colour of freckley porridge if I don't fake bake! I was just considering buying that new three week fake tan from boots ready for giving birth.....Eurgh pasty thighs on show Arrgh! Baby cones first I guess. Strange thing is my husband has been saying for months that scientists will find some evidence that fake tan isn't good for unborn babies. I'm going to read that article again to see exactly what the crack is!!!

From Wikipedia:
Average levels of 20 nanograms/gram of parabens have been detected in a small sample of 20 breast tumors.[3][13] These findings, along with the demonstrated ability of some parabens to partially mimic estrogen, a hormone known to play a role in the development of breast cancers,[3] have led some scientists to conclude that the presence of parabens may be associated with the occurrence of breast cancer,[14][15] and to call for investigation into whether or not a causal link exists.[16] The lead researcher of the UK study, molecular biologist Philippa Darbre, reported that the ester-bearing form of the parabens found in the tumors indicate that they came from something applied to the skin, such as an underarm deodorant, cream or body spray, and stated that the results helped to explain why up to 60% of all breast tumors are found in just one-fifth of the breast - the upper-outer quadrant, nearest the underarm.[14] "From this research it is not possible to say whether parabens actually caused these tumors, but they may certainly be associated with the overall rise in breast cancer cases.

MistyRocks · 23/07/2012 12:31

yeah i heard about underarm deodorant having a possible link to cancer cos of parabens, so i suppose fake tan would have parabens in too, especially spray ones

might have to give that vita liberate a try but its well expensive!

We are all going to die of something,I'll take the risk with the fake tan as too much of anything can cause damage.

MrsJREwing · 23/07/2012 12:40

I don't use much in the way of creams, lotions and potions as it seemed obvious to me they were full of rubbish years back. I feel that airfresheners are evil too and set.off my allergies. Even gps prescribe rubbish for kids ecxema, I use coconut oil instead from chemist on dd instead and its v cheap.

Wheresmycaffeinedrip · 23/07/2012 12:42

Anyone else got that Russell Howard song about the daily mail causes of cancer in their heads :o

PrettyPrinceofParties · 23/07/2012 13:07

Parabens are in just about everything. Shampoos, conditioners, moisturisers, shave gels and even, ahem, personal lubricants! They are used to preserve products so you need to buy more natural products to avoid them.

I used to sell natural/organic Skincare and cosmetics so am a bit obsessed with reading labels. things like organic, natural and herbal on packaging is no guarantee of an organic, natural product, just that a percentage of the ingredients are, the remainder can be chemical synthetic crap. You can eve add fragrance to hide another fragrance and then legally call the product unfragrance.

I'm making my own products now and hope to start selling them in the next couple of months.
