to report the Asda delivery driver

We live on a one way street / roundabout with a playground in the centre.

A Sainsbury's van was blocking access to our car parking so we decided to wait until he had finished. No problem with that.

Then an Asda van decided to drive the WRONG WAY round the roundabout. He then started shouting at us to move and reverse. We refused. He started being abusive. We still refused. In the end he did give in and turned around.

About ten minutes later we've just seen him leave the square AGAIN going around the roundabout the wrong way, nearly hitting a cyclist in the process and mounting the kerb (which is at the exit to the playground).

We have a photo of him going around the roundabout the wrong way. Would be being unreasonable to complain to Asda about his driving?

yanbu, he could have killed someone.

phantomnamechanger · 22/07/2012 19:50

of course you should report him, why the hesitation?

i would have reported him for the rudeness, never mind the crap driving!

PomBearWithAnOFRS · 22/07/2012 20:05

Why stop at asda, call the police nonemergency line and see what they say too. Asda will know exactly who he is, so can identify him to the police, so they can find him if they need to.

MintyMojito · 22/07/2012 20:07

What kind of roundabout? Is it on a housing estate, or a proper roundabout on a road iykwim?

HmmThinkingAboutIt · 22/07/2012 20:08

I was raging, and needed perspective about whether we were being petty for refusing to move... I'm stubborn and making him turn around might have been petty. Plus, he obviously knows where we live.

Housing estate with playground in centre. With signs stating its a roundabout.

HecateHarshPants · 22/07/2012 20:10

Certainly he should be reported.

WildWorld2004 · 22/07/2012 20:12

Definately phone asda and report him. You can not drive like that.

MintyMojito · 22/07/2012 20:20

In that case, I would call Asda and not the police. People were always cutting across roundabouts and going the wrong way on the estate I used to live on with my mum. It's annoying and lazy, but not sure it's police worthy.

Asda should know they've got a twatty driver on their hands representing the company in a bad light though.

Sirzy · 22/07/2012 20:22

report him, I emailed ASDA to complain about the crap driving of one of their drivers and received 2 very apologetic emails (one from the head office one from the store he was employed through)

numbum · 22/07/2012 20:29

Could you not just have moved out his way? OK he was going the wrong way around a roundabout but is on a tight schedule and will probably have someone else on here saying 'AIBU to complain about my Asda delivery being 10 minutes late'

As long as he was using his mirrors/road sense around the park I really can't see the problem and think people are so dramatic over things like this

HmmThinkingAboutIt · 22/07/2012 20:33

Why should I have moved? It takes him no time whatsoever to go around the roundabout the right way. I see no reason, why we should be intimidated by someone who is too lazy to drive safety. Access to the estate is somewhat blind and anyone coming onto the estate whilst he was driving off, not expecting a vehicle to be coming in that direction very realistically could have hit him head on.

A roundabout's a roundabout, if it's signed properly and on a public road, but even without that aspect the guy was driving dangerously and was rude to a member of the public. He's hardly a great representative for Asda to be employing. You should report this to them, at least, and probably to the police too.

wannabedomesticgoddess · 22/07/2012 20:46

Id report him for the rudeness alone.

HmmThinkingAboutIt · 22/07/2012 20:58

Reported.

numbum · 22/07/2012 21:13

Ohhh this is one of those 'I'm not being unreasonable but I'll post about it anyway because I'm feeling annoyed' posts? I wish I'd known that before having an opinion

ginmakesitallok · 22/07/2012 21:18

num - so as long as I use my mirrors and road sense I can drive however I want and ignore the highway code??? And it's OK for someone to drive dangerously because hey we wouldn't want someone's shopping to be late??? Your opinion is just wrong

numbum · 22/07/2012 21:23

The way the OP has described it makes it sound like they've just stubbornly refused to move, making a drama out of nothing. In my mind it's a quiet, grassy park with a mini roundabout/estate in the middle of it. If she hasn't described it properly* then yes my opinion is wrong. But if she has described it properly, my opinion is only wrong IN YOU OPINION!

*I live in a grassy, countryside area where people move out of the way to be friendly and keep the peace

ginmakesitallok · 22/07/2012 21:26

Nope sorry - saying that you can drive however you want and choose to ignore the rules of the road when the only emergency is that you might be late delivering someone's groceries is wrong - and that's not an opinion that's the law.

HmmThinkingAboutIt · 22/07/2012 21:26

We did stubbornly refuse to move.

Thats separate to whether we should report him though.

OP posts:
TheFogsGettingThicker · 22/07/2012 21:27

Numbum - In what way is driving the wrong way round a roundabout using road sense???? Confused

And how would using his mirrors help in that respect? You want to be looking straight ahead in that situation, so you can see the alarmed expressions on the motorists' faces you're heading straight for! Don't you?

numbum · 22/07/2012 21:35

But, as I said, I live in a quiet area and there wouldn't be 'alarmed expressions on the motorists' faces' because people would just shrug and move out the way!

obviously the OP doesn't live where I live and, although I can't picture the drama, I guess from all the other replies she should report the ASDA driver

Nannyto2 · 22/07/2012 21:35

I don't see why the OP refusing to move is an issue. The issue here is the driver clearly doesnt/ chooses not to drive properly. I reported a Asda delivery man last week for driving dangerously close to my car for a good few miles then using a bus stop to undertake me!!!

Definitely worthy of being reported

numbum · 22/07/2012 21:39

nannyto2 you don't see it as an issue because you don't live in the leafy, backwards area I live in! Where I live my post would be 'AIBU to think this woman could have moved out the way to let me through because it wouldn't have caused an issue'...but I understand I'm in the major minority here!

Nannyto2 · 22/07/2012 21:42

If it is my right of way/ I was there first I never move for inpatient drivers. Likewise I don't expect others to move if it's their right of way/ they were there first
