to think if you go on Don't Tell The Bride, you can't BREAK THE RULES OF THE SHOW

I'm watching a repeat on Watch. The bride didn't like the dress the groom designed for her, so they rang him up and told him to buy another dress.

So basically, she chose her wedding dress anyway. Which isn't the point of the show, really. Hmm

To be fair, she does look lovely in the second dress. I bet the other brides were sat there watching it, thinking 'Why didn't I just kick up a fuss too!' Grin

The one where he took her to Thorpe Park was hillarious!! Who on earth would want to go to Thorpe Park on their wedding day??

ViviPru · 22/07/2012 09:31

seeker, well I guess being up to date with my TV Licence payments, I do pay their wages... Grin

Nah - I think it IS totally legit. Barred I always ask the same, and DP gets really eggy when I do. He likes to think of himself as some kind of sartorialist with heightened aesthetic awareness so it irks him that he knows he couldn't choose me a dress for toffee.

I get annoyed with all these series when the participants break the rules and they still film it and presumably get to keep their money. On the holiday swap one from a few years ago the idle family would often refuse to do the activities, on wifeswap one family often wouldn't follow the wife's "rules" (although the sexism of wifeswap and lack of non nuclear families used to irritate me as well).
If you aren't going to keep to the rules don't sign up for the programme.

VodkaKnockers me and my dh, who does nt watch it out of the corner of his eye Hmm loved that episode. It was one of the best ones the couple were both gorgeous

MadamFolly · 22/07/2012 09:48

I think if I was to do me and DP would agree on everything beforehand then pretend to have different interests all the way through the interviews.

DP is pretty savvy so I think he'd be alright against the Production team. I'm pretty laid back as well so even if he did decide to go for a Minecraft theme (would not put it past him) I could deal with it.

SleepyFergus · 22/07/2012 09:54

I'm just watching an episode on Really at the moment, and the bride is a complete brat. Mind you, the groom did spend £2k on 5 days in Krakow for his stag......they deserve each other!!!

roughtyping · 22/07/2012 10:02

can't believe how good the miners looked in that episode!!

Trills · 22/07/2012 10:09

If the producers let you break the rules then that's up to them.

I have a theory that the only people who end up on it are:

1 - rather stupid (they think that they don't care or that their other half will pick things they like when anyone could tell it's not true)

2 - extremely cunning (and so fool the producers into thinking that they haven't conspired together beforehand)

Anyone who likes the same things (or who doesn't care) would be weeded out by the producers. Anyone who doesn't like the same things and knows it wouldn't apply in the first pace

SquidgyBiscuits · 22/07/2012 10:22

In my past life as a wedding planner, I had a wedding booked whih was cancelled, and a date the next year was checked and held. This was all by the bride. Next thing I had BBC on the phone arranging a release so they could film at my venue. The groom then phones up to check availability for the same date he was already holding.

The whole thing is farcical. But it does make entertaining telly.

shockers · 22/07/2012 10:24

I wept watching the blessing in the Fishermen's chapel in Tenby Blush.

GoranisGod · 22/07/2012 10:53

I think this show is a complete con and I think the producers are fooled regularly by the couples.

There was one young girl who looked the spit of one of the gypsy wedding girls-orange tan, fake eyelashes, troweled on make-up etc. She went on and on about how much she didnt want a fairytale/pink/jordan wedding...

Guess what she got-yep a pink dress and carriage. It was soooooooooo obvious that was exactly what she did want and they had obviously conspired before hand.

The one with the vegas wedding was sad-I doubt they will be together in a few years time.

I would immediately dump any man who suggested having his stag in vegas, prague, krakow etc....

My cousin and his now wife applied for dttb and they wanted it to be all about my cousins cancer (he is in remission now) and their little boys illness. My cousin refused and they married in April with their ppi payout instead Grin

Mrsjay · 22/07/2012 11:53

I Love DTTB and I have seen this a few times I think if bridesmaid phones or mum phones it isnt rulebreaking Hmm but it is really but i guess she has to be comfortable in her dress . I loved the one where he took her to a theme park and wanted to go on a ride she was like Shock and didnt do it, some of the fellas annoy me, Like the one who sent abroad on his stag do and sent her to a spa for her hen do

Mrsjay · 22/07/2012 11:56

saw one recently nd the grown up bridesmaid's dress didnt fit she was crying, it was awful, that can't have been done on purpose the florist fixed it in the end

That was repeated somewhere the other day I did feel sorry for her and yayy for the florist, and also somebody else said what about the posting of the banns in scotland they need to be done 6 weeks before and put up church wedding or not iyswim

SparklyGothKat · 22/07/2012 12:10

My cousins wife said that you actually have 8 weeks but only 3 are filmed.

Gumby · 22/07/2012 12:15

My favourite one is the Thorpe park one

The bride wailing 'why the fuck am I at Thorpe park on my wedding day'

Grin it's great tv!

Mrsjay · 22/07/2012 12:20

The bride wailing 'why the fuck am I at Thorpe park on my wedding day'

wasnt it raining and she was tottering along in her heels looking livid Grin

If they get 8 weeks and film 3 then she must know the venue she could just google it, ?

saw 1 that the groom thought it would be hilarious to let her think she wasnt getting married in her church and had an usher re direct the car Oh how i laughed Hmm, The Vagas one I wouldn't have married him ,

BBc3 were showing the american ones but it wasnt the same ,

That one where she got married in a science museum... I cannot think of anything worse. Nothing says romance like a life size replica of the world's first computer and a bunch of anoraks gawping at your dress.

lollilou · 22/07/2012 12:30

The Irish DTTB aren't as good either not sure why.

Mrsjay · 22/07/2012 12:30

venue disappointment is funny

I hope it is a stately home and not the pub Oh it is a pub Grin

Mrsjay · 22/07/2012 12:32

I don't like the Irish one the brides seem quite laid back and don't seem to mind what happens I think Irish people are quite laid back anyway.

I need tears tantrums and hyperventalating in my reality programmes ,oh and shit best men

GreenEggsAndNichts · 22/07/2012 12:33

I loved this show the first season, but the more contrived the situations get, the less I like it. And yes, I think the bride should have to wear whatever crap dress the groom picks out. That's the whole point- you've given up control of your wedding to someone else.

Sure, it's Your Day and all that, but you signed a contract in exchange for a 12k wedding you clearly couldn't afford otherwise. If you wanted to choose your dress, then you need to pay for your own wedding. It's very easy.
