to think that practising the drums with the window open is not on?

I live in a terraced house, going round a block, so all our back gardens form one long rectangle. Someone has recently got themselves or their dc a drum kit, kept in a back room upstairs - they practice a fair bit and seemingly always with the window open.

It's finally a nice (well, warm and not raining) day and I'd like to sit in my garden to enjoy it without the drumming background noise at least being muffled by a window.

AIBU to think this is a bit off and to go round, if I can identify the house, and ask them to shut their window?

I agree with you 100%. My DD plays drums and wouldn't dream of practising with the window open. And 95% of the times she plays with practice pad dampener thingys on too.

YABU -but then my brother is a drummer!

I would ask about the window and perhaps suggest a maximum time for practice every day.

hazchem - does your brother drum with the windows open on a nice day too?!

Do you keep the windows shut whenever you do something noisy in the house?

Politeness says they don't do it all day every day but I think to expect them to do it without a window open when it's quite warm is unreasonable

Well I don't do anything as noisy as drumming! I wouldn't turn up my music very loud and fling open the windows without expecting to annoy some of my neighbours.

And every time it has been nice enough to have the windows open or sit in the garden this last week, there has been drumming to go with it.

When my son played the drums we limited the amount of time he could play and the times he could play (so not early in the morning or late at night) but I wouldn't have made him play with the window shut. It's no noisier/ more annoying than a lawn mower, hedgetrimmer etc.

YABU UNLESS ITS LATE IN THE EVENINGS AND PEOPLE OR KIDS ARE TRYING TO SLEEP (oops cap lock, sorry).

My dd2 has a drum kit, it is loud so we dont let her play it too much (she's happy to play keyboard instead), I don't mind listning to people play instruments as long as they are not too bad at it Grin.
