I know its the DM but I wonder if anyone at any point thinks how exploitative these articles look before printing.

The grandmother looks like she could do with losing a few stone herself.

Birdsgottafly · 21/07/2012 16:58

She is 77, it is up to her doctor to advise her, she may have health conditions.

Only a doctor can tell an older person if losing weight would benefit them and if it is even possible.

ZeldaUpNorth · 21/07/2012 17:00

She has the same carpet and fireplace as my nan Shock she's had them for about 20 years at least lol

birds what? Sorry but that's a bit Hmm

GhostShip · 21/07/2012 18:11

At what age does someone become 'older' and thus people are unable to advise and comment on their weight? Confused

JollyHockeyStick · 21/07/2012 18:15

I don't understand how that's news.

Nuckinfutter · 21/07/2012 18:27

Non story really, I wouldn't have given it a second thought it if OP hadn't mentioned it tbh.

What older people can't take it upon themselves to diet?

people in glass houses though..

I didn't say that an older person cannot take it upon themselves to diet.

It is more difficult to lose weight once you have carried it through the menopause. Unless her doctor is telling her that it is affecting her long term health, then she doesn't need to do anything about it.

It is nearly impossible if you are on some medications and cannot exercise.

Tbh, at 77 i wouldn't bother trying to lose weight.

lastnerve · 22/07/2012 08:55

Why not? just cut down her portion size, if she feels she is okay to comment on other peoples weight she needs to set a good example.

the same could be said for a young person. I am doing something about my weight as it will become unhealthy at some point, not yet though and there are many slim people I am healthier than in the holistic sense of the word, but you still need to take control.

I loved my nan for this, she was 83 when she died and always said she loved her figure and her feet! I never understood the foot comment because feet are feet, then I realised when I worked in a care home that a lot of elderly peoples feet go a bit rank...
