My friends Blackpool address to try and get tickets for the Big Switch On (the illumination lights switch on event, bands and special guests opening etc)

There's limited tickets and a massive 50% of those are going to people living in Blackpool.

I think it's a bit unfair how 50% go to those in Blackpool. I know it's their town and all but it should just be chosen at random IMO.

No I think it is fair that the town hosting the event get most oportunity to be there.
And no I don't think you should lie to get the tickets.

TheMysteryCat · 20/07/2012 20:04

council tax payers in blackpool will be footing the bill for most of this celebration, so YABU to lie about where you live to try and get tickets.

Rindercella · 20/07/2012 20:05

But a massive 50% of the tickets are chosen at random. YABU.

TheMysteryCat do you know how much the illuminations make for Blackpool? No, it won't the the taxpayer footing the bill :)

But all other comments, fair enough! I asked for opinions and shall take them on board

YABU

For an event like that it makes sense that at lest half of the people should be locals.

TheMysteryCat · 20/07/2012 20:17

ghostship millions I'm sure, but where do you think the funding and money comes from in the first instance? the local authority

the police, the fire service, ambulance, highways, culture, licensing and lots of other LA depts and publicly funded organisations will all be providing services locally to support this event.

and council tax pays for an element of all of these.

GhostShip · 20/07/2012 20:19

TheMysteryCat it pays for itself in essence, the local authority wouldn't have the money in the first place was it not for the illuminations.

Anyhow, I've got my answer. I'm unreasonable. Whoops!

Well, if your friend knows about it and isn't going to be wanting tickets themselves, then it's ok IMHO. But ywbu to use your friends address without their permission.

GhostShip · 20/07/2012 22:49

Oh she says it's fine! I would never ever do it otherwise.

OP posts:
squeakytoy · 20/07/2012 22:51

If your friend isnt going, and would give you her tickets then I would say that is fair enough.

I can agree with 50% of local people getting the tickets as that minimises the extra disruption to roads in the area that would happen if more outsiders were going, and also the locals are the ones who are affected by the increase in traffic during the illuminations.
