every time he's taken to court it costs us over £1000 an hour
every time he's locked up it costs us over £750 a week
every time he's arrested diverts MORE police from the jobs we need them to do (we'll leave Simon Harwood out of that bit)

FFS he's 53, its pretty shrivelled by now. Let the daft sod walk in peace to wherever he wants to go.

I can't stand this arrogant, stubborn, pig headed man.

If it were up to me, I'd keep him in prison for as long as it takes to learn that he's not above the law.

ivykaty44 · 21/07/2012 16:04

tbh i think night clubs on a saturday night are far worse for the nakedness surrounding them - yet they don't get arrested - and could be for being drunk in the street.

The police pick and choose, they let the drunks go home or stagger or cause fights all half naked or barely dressed.

So why they keep arresting this chap on the pretense that he is breaking the law and we have to comply is beyond me.

They don't treat everyone the same

Methe · 21/07/2012 16:06

I watched a documentary about this chap years ago and couldn't understand what all the fuss what about the and still can't!

People are so prudish! If I was out with my kids are a naked man walked by we'd probably all have a good gawp, a giggle and the a conversation about how people enjoy different things.. It'd never cross my mind to call the police about it unless he was walking around with a big boner!

I feel quite proud that he's sticking up for his sensibilities to be honest. He isn't hurting anyone. If a person is offended by the sight of an unclothed human body then that's their issue, not his! We all look the same under our clothes..

Birdsgottafly · 21/07/2012 16:15

"We all look the same under our clothes.."

If only that were true.

Some of us are a lot prettier, cleaner and tidy up our body hair (avoids metioning arse wiping/secretions).

Methe · 21/07/2012 16:21

I find it enlightening that someone will show their body without worrying about how pretty they are or I'd they've got stay pubes.

If more people did we'd all have more normal ideas about what people are supposed to look like!

TapirBackRider · 21/07/2012 16:25

ivy yes they can arrest them all, but can't because they don't have the manpower; so have to choose the more serious offences or persistant offenders.

The rambler is being arrested for a breach of the peace, stated as "conduct severe enough to cause alarm to ordinary people and threaten serious disturbance to the community" which includes such things as peeping toms, mooning, and streaking.

Birdsgottafly · 21/07/2012 16:26

His female companion waxes.

He makes me sick just looking at his top half, tbh.

MintyMojito · 21/07/2012 16:33

Why is nakedness so bad in public anyway? Who decided that? I mean I am not really fancying wandering around with my boobs flopping about but I don't understand why, if it's warm enough, nakedness became a Very Bad Thing To Do.

MintyMojito · 21/07/2012 16:34

(in public of course)

squeakytoy · 21/07/2012 16:43

"If a person is offended by the sight of an unclothed human body then that's their issue, not his! We all look the same under our clothes.."

Hmmmm... so no need to ban the page 3 girls then.. Grin

MintyMojito · 21/07/2012 16:51

Why would there be a need to ban page 3 girls? I think they should introduce page 3 boys too. Shame willies aren't as attractive to look at as breasts.

Methe · 21/07/2012 17:29

I have no problem with page 3 girls either tbh.

ivykaty44 · 21/07/2012 17:51

TapirBackRider

There are persistent drunks out and about every weekend night causing trouble and cost to the NHS is awful, a&e waiting rooms are overcrowed and ill people that are not drunk have to wait, yet nothing is done to try to stop drunkenness and awful behaviour that is a menace to society as a whole. The cost of policing the drunkenness is expensive and if that could be curbed then police could get on with real crimes.

This naked man only starts costing money when he is arrested - before and afterwards it doesn't cost.

TapirBackRider · 21/07/2012 18:37

Ivykaty Yes I know - I used to be, and my dh is still a serving police officer.

Every arrest costs money - down the the hours wasted on random paperwork for statistics etc. This is what the governments and management want, so this is what is done.

Jux · 21/07/2012 18:45

There are definitely worse things than showing off your wrinkly skin and hairy arse in the High Street. I suppose Society, such as it is, has to impress upon people that they can't behave however they like, or - heaven forfend - we might all get ideas. His real crime is being mildly subversive, but subversion can lead to revolutions, and we can't have that can we?

Did you notice the heavy drip of sarcasm at the end there?

wrathomum · 21/07/2012 20:31

He came out of solitary confinement for refusing to wear clothes in prison. He didn't start out on this path as a matter of principle but got really fed up of being arrested so frequently.

It does seem like a waste of resources IMO. While the police, judiciary and prison system are spending time and money on this case they're not spending it on other probably more important things.
It's a shame he's being so sort of confrontational about his principle. If he was to make his point with a mass streakathon or something and make do with being naked at home....... Maybe?

wrathomum · 21/07/2012 20:32

Sorry - I meant, he was put in solitary confinement while in prison because etc

Methe · 22/07/2012 00:44

Jux, you've got it completely.

It isn't about nudity, it's about letting someone break convention.

Good for him. I hope he sticks to it. If I ever see him waving his (flacid) willy around in the breeze in my home town I'll go and congratulate him.

Jenstar21 · 22/07/2012 04:42

He actually walked past my Aunt's house in Townhill the other day, shortly before being arrested. My mum was there with DD, and none of them noticed until some teenagers started yelling. So, not really causing mass public outrage.... DD wasn't phased at all - she sees Daddy in the nip at home sometimes, so nothing new for her.
I think people often just like to find things to get worked up/outraged about. ;)

fireice · 24/07/2012 07:22

He has appeared in court now in connection with the most recent arrest. He didnt ask for bail.
