Shit! I remember reading about this at the time and feeling really angry - off to read the article fully.

None of us were in the court or heard the evidence. Murder and manslaughter are serious crimes with long sentences for those convicted. The case has to be proved beyond reasonable doubt and, if the prosecution failed to do that, then 'justice' is to find the accused not guilty.

I can't say if YABU or YANBU unless you tell us why you think it's a travesty

From reading the link, there isn't any info that could help me make up my mind either.

Do you know more about it than the link OP?

I remember how wonderfully calm and brave the Father was who appealed for calm...it's quite possible there would have been more deaths/violence if he hadn't have done that Sad

Such a waste of 3 young lives.

Weren't these people charged as a 'joint endeavor'?

I always thought this is a bit dodgy. If someone you are with does something really bad, to what extend can you know it would happen, let alone prevent it?

Clearly if you watched them put a knife in their pocket earlier, but what if they just grab a weapon and strike straight away.

I think these people were in a different car, so could they really know their friends were planning on killing people by driving into them? Unless they could prove texts/phone calls/IM etc, then probably not
