to covering this topic for NC.

Ds goes to a school where they swim for a term suppossedly. However, they started midway though 1st half term. Had several cancelled due to rain, no lifeguard etc etc.
AIBU to think that this is a bit rubbish really.

YANBU. Why was it cancelled due to rain? I assume it's an indoor pool?

grantham84 · 19/07/2012 15:13

Pool is outside unfortunately.

Cancelled due to rain? Were they worried about the kids getting wet?

grantham84 · 19/07/2012 15:17

Dh said same thing nocake. Although they do have to walk.

That is shite, they might as well not bother at all as have 2 lessons in a term.

belgo · 19/07/2012 15:19

An outdoor pool in the UK?

I'm not surprised all the lessons were cancelled. I'd look at getting lessons for your children outside of school.

belgo · 19/07/2012 15:20

yes, they'd be better off having an extra gym class or reading lesson rather then swimming that is cancelled all the time.

redskyatnight · 19/07/2012 15:20

4 is 4 more than we have here. Though I do wonder how many schools genuinely have sufficient swimming lessons that a child who doesn't otherwise swim can actually manage the required 25m?

BrigitBigKnickers · 19/07/2012 15:28

Our kids only get 6 swimming lessons a year in the summer term of year 5 and 6 at a local secondary school. It doesn't seem like much but with walking there and changing it takes a good hour and a quarter out of an afternoon for what amounts to about a 20 minute lesson.

It's different if a school has its own pool but sadly very few primary schools have them.

We do!
We have an outdoor swimming pool and everyone from Reception upwards swims once a week from Easter onward. We do have to cancel some lessons for the younger children if it becomes too cold ( not in the pool which is heated, but in the changing rooms which aren't!) but the older children swim come hell or high water! The main ones to suffer are the teaching staff, teaching under a brolly is an experience!!

Lucky kids, thats twice what my DD is getting. Note I said getting, not got, she has her ONE swimming lesson tomorrow, the last day of term!!

It is 100% more than my DS is having, none at all for him!

We live in a town where the council knocked down the swimming pool, thoughwe do have the sea to chuck them in I suppose!!

YANBU, it is a lot rubbish!!
