Sitting in front of people in a cinema

So had a day off today and so did dd. We decided to go and see Prometheus (sp) because it's orange Wednesday.

Not many people in the cinema. We made our way to a row and sat, making sure we had not sat in front of anyone (cinema was nearly empty, so that was not difficult).

Two large men walked in, took the row in front of us and sat down directly in front of us.

Now fine if the cinema is full, but this one was practically empty.

To me that seems rude, or AIBU? dd and I moved a few seats to the left (making sure we where not obstructing anyones view).

Just to add we are both under 5ft and the two men who sat in front of us looked over 6ft.

Where were you sat, OP? The sound system in most theatres is aimed at the centre of the seating, not to mention you'll want to see the screen dead-on, rather than at an angle. It would BU to claim more than your fair share of the 'sweet spot' seats.

I've never heard of allocated seats. I always sit away from other people.

iknowwho · 22/07/2012 22:07

Would you want allocated seats in this cinema?

iknowwho · 22/07/2012 22:07

Try again

YANBU

Winds me up as well.

Drives me mad too. Don't remember the last time a cinema had allocated seats and we moved from one side of the country to the other.

We always seem to end up with the tall people immediately in front and the noisy eaters immediately behind :( We do tend to go for the VIP seats (which are allocated) to avoid the problem.

We had something similar the other day.

Took the dc's all sat in seats waiting, another family walks in and the only adult in the group sits and blocks DD's view. She could've put one of her DC's there and put herself in front of me.

I ended up doing a shuffle around so that DD could see.

I don't understand why so many of you are saying you can't see if someone tall sits in front of you.

Modern cinemas are designed so that the seating is on an incline and the screen is massive.

I always think that DS2 isn't going to be able to see anything but once the film starts everything is fine.

Depends on the cinema. In the largest screen of our local Vue the seating is sufficiently stepped but in some of the smaller screens the rows are closer together on a more gentle incline and in those you cannot see past somebody tall if they are immediately in front of you.
