To wonder if you have been to a clairvoyant?

I am meeting a friend for lunch in Covent Garden today and she wants to visit a shop where they offer clairvoyant readings for about £70. Apart from the cost, I am a bit sceptical tbh. Has anyone had any experiences of clairvoyants, good or bad?

Blonds please accept huge hug.

I have had cards read at Hebert castle in Kent and all she said about my life at the time was spot on down to health fears for my mum.

She also told me that she was worried about one of my dds, and saw a big bus( not with me) dd was badly injured in feb in a school coach crash.

We have also done ougi board sessions, me, dh and his family and at times this has been very strange. My ds friend was killed in Afghanistan and he had a nickname that only he and I knew. Just my sil and bil were on the board and it spelt out this nick name and a message for my ds.

I can't explain this but if millions of ordinary people belive in Jesus and Allah without any real tangible proof then how can anyone scoff at this either.

I think with mediums etc those who charge tend to be charlatans.

My DDad used to go to the local spritualist church, they regularly have mediums and spiritualist healers.

I have been with him a couple of times (several years apart) , I found it useful and there was no cost.

Blondeshavemorefun · 18/07/2012 18:15

thanks thebody - tbh hearing things that no one else would know proves to me that he wasnt a fake - and for all 3 to tell me the same things

will message you the details :)

births/deaths/marriages/illness/travel/legal scrapes/moving house/financial woes

....will happen to nearly everyone at some point or other.

If Clairvoyants mention these they don't have a gift they just got lucky.

CalamityKate · 18/07/2012 19:03

..... and yet, when previously "successful" and "amazingly accurate" mediums/clairvoyants are tested properly, ie the opportunity to cheat in some way is removed, NONE of them, EVER, can perform better than chance.

Look at Sally Morgan {spit} - really accurate until she was forced to stop using an earpiece. Apparently her success rates have plummeted recently. Surprising, that.... Hmm

perplexedpirate · 18/07/2012 19:18

Mediums/clairvoyants etc are my absolute pet hate.
I would like to tell you why but I'm going out in a bit and don't want to spoil my mood for the evening.
Just please, anyone who is thinking about giving money to these shameless con artists (and yes, that's what they ALL are), give it to to charity, give it to the next homeless person you see, hell, give it to me!
I guarantee it will do more good then spending it on perpetuating this immoral, mercenary and callous trade.

Dolcelatte · 18/07/2012 21:09

Thank you so much for your responses - I have to say that I am a lot less sceptical than I was. There are some amazing accounts here and it is clear that there is something to it. There are of course fakes, but it appears that there are some genuine people out there, who provide not only accuracy, but also a lot of insight and comfort.

Bonnie

Who was the person who dominated you and at first you thought they were all powerful and wonderful? You saw the light and gained strength by leaving them or getting them out of you life?

A teacher or an older person? A Svengali sort of character?

redrubyshoes · 18/07/2012 23:40

I predict the next person who asks to 'be read' will be recovering from a long illness and is now feeling better and looking forward to a bright future and she has healing hands and should use them.

SoleSource · 18/07/2012 23:43

I don't own a headboard..ah haaa fraud! Grin

redrubyshoes · 18/07/2012 23:45

Sole

I shall only charge you £30 then. Cash only.

Noo ruby Will I move into my dream house this year? Grin

thebody · 18/07/2012 23:55

I think some posters should actually read some of the posts before taking the piss. Some on here have been through dreadful things, loosing husband or close relative and have described how much a clairvoyant or tarot reader has helped.

I don't think that's appropriate to scoff or laugh at.

Perhaps it shows how lucky you have been in life not to feel the need for comfort or help.

SoleSource · 18/07/2012 23:57

Well I wouldn't call my life lucky..but I do apologise if I have unwittingly caused any offence to anybody. Thanks

WillNeverGetALicence · 19/07/2012 00:56

I have an open mind about this sort of thing but also am quite sceptical if that makes any sense...

I have been to a couple of clairvoyants in my time and have found them helpful to a certain degree, as in they helped me find comfort in vulnerable times. But I have also found them to be quite entertaining and it is a pleasant experience to have someone focus on you and your life for 30 minutes or whatever.

however I do think £70 is a bit steep. I normally paid around £25 - £30 I think. A friend recently recommended a clairvoyant to me who happens to have a day job as an investment banker. She charges £55 for a 30 minute session and I thought that was a bit steep [greedy banker!]

i went to see a clairvoyant in chiswick once who was quite spookily spot on. He spoke about the man I was seeing at the time and gave me quite a bit of insight into the relationship at the time, said that we would sort things out [he is now my husband!] But he also said that I was worried about my mother's health, not to worry she was as strong as an ox and that I would go home to Aus for Christmas. It was i think October at the time and I had no intention of going home for Christmas and as far as I knew my mother was fit and well. So at the time I just said "mmm" and nothing more but felt disappointed that he had got it so wrong.
Well... a few weeks later I discovered that my mother had been diagnosed with cancer. The Drs were very concerned as they thought it had spread. I made plans to travel to be with her in Aus, managed to get a flight on Boxing Day. I told DM about the clairvoyant's prediction that she would be fine and she actually went under anaesthetic repeating "I'm as strong as an ox" to herself. DM was fine [had kidney removed but cancer thankfully hadn't spread]. I thought that was a little freaky and seemed too specific to be lucky guesses. But even if that was all it was it gave me and DM great hope and comfort at a time when we felt anxious and overwhelmed.

And it is appropriate for some charlatan to exploit the grief of someone who has just lost a loved one?

And do we have to ignore all the ones who have had readings that were not acurate?

Hamishbear · 19/07/2012 05:02

I think sometimes the waiting rooms are bugged - I had an uncannily acurate reading once in Brighton. Then I'd realised I'd spent ten mins in a waiting room where I'd discussed what I hoped to get out of the session & I probably mentioned names there too...

Blondeshavemorefun · 19/07/2012 09:39

as the body said the people i saw did help me, it may sound silly to those on here who havnt lost a loved one but i needed to know if my dh was happy now -as always said i could cope with life if knew he was happy now dead

as i said i gave away no info at all and was told many things that no way they could have known

my best friend is very sceptical and thinks they google you, bug your phone Hmm as if they are going to do that for £25 but all i did was give my first name and number and no other info
