AIBU to feel a bit short changed re ruined baby clothes?

I bought DD two pinafore dresses in the Boden sale. They were £11 each so £26 including £4 P&P.

The first time I washed one the dye ran ruining the pinafore and a brand new pair of DD's tights which are now a sludge colour. Fortunately she had been sick so only these two items were in the wash.

I've been offered a refund of £11 but I feel a bit short changed as the tights were £5 and were brand new and I wouldn't normally pay £4 P&P for a single item costing £11 which is the position I'm now left in as i only have one dress. Added to this they want the ruined pinafore back so I have to go and queue at the post office.

I would like to know if others would feel a bit annoyed or whether I am being a bit tight about this and should suck it up?

YANBU, I make children's clothes to sell and the first thing I do with a new fabric is to flipping well test it thoroughly! Wash it, stretch it and give it a good going over.

Assuming you followed the washing instructions, I think a full refund for both items is in order and you can press for it.

I can see why you're annoyed, but I think it's one of those that you just have to vent about and move on from - and not buy from them again if they're not up to being washed.

Serves you right for buying Boden. Pretentious rubbish. Try Tu or Next. Much better

Pastabee · 15/07/2012 19:10

mrsharrypearce I completely agree with you as that's where most of her clothes come from and the dye never runs!

Sigh, sigh. I think I'll just chalk it up to experience and swear off mini Boden.

I don't think Boden is pretentious...just ordinary nowadays. It's no more expensive or designer-ish than Next! Their prints are dull though.

Yanbu OP....I would ask for a voucher to cover new tights too! I once complained to Monsoon about some children's hair clips...they ran bright pink dye all over DDs top when she got caught in the rain and they gave me a voucher for the top and the clips...to cover their cost I mean.

mysteryfairy · 15/07/2012 20:26

Have you said what you said above to Boden customer services? They are normally very good and if you expressed all of the above my expectation is that they would at least refund postage. I'm not sure if the tights are from there or not - that might effect how they handle those.

Sorry if you've already had this conversation without success.

They have offered you a refund on the faulty product, I think that's enough tbh.

Having to pay the p&p is just one of the things that goes alond with Internet/mail order shopping. If you had bought it in town you may well have had to pay bus fare or petrol and parking to get back to the shop.

It's right that they would want the pinafore back, how else are they supposed to know that you aren't trying to rip them off? You woudont go into a shop and ask for a refund on a product you had left at home.

I got a dress from pumpkin patch once and it did the same thing but ruined a whole load of washing

the people in the store were less than helpful so I went to HO and got £100 to cover the cost of the ruined clothes, but I had to send them the ruined clothes -no skin off my nose, everything was sludgey purpley grey!

and the clothes were mainly asda so not worth £100 anyway

SoleSource · 15/07/2012 20:33

YANBU :(

BellaVita · 15/07/2012 20:33

I ordered a lovely woollen tunic in the sale last year.

On washing, it grew. I had washed and dried it according to the instructions.

Boden were nothing but helpful. Refunded the money there and then and sent me a postage label to send it back. I had ordered something else too which was ok, so I didn't mind paying the P&P for that item.

Cabrinha · 15/07/2012 20:38

YANBU to ask them for the cost of tights - but nowhere have you said you've asked and been refused?
YABU to expect the postage back.
YABU to complain about post office - how hard? It's part of the risk you take ordering online, and you pay less because of it.

Re the washing in the first place... Even if you have an intelligent system re water usage, that's still a lot of water and electricity. Seriously - you washed one child's dress and tights?!! YABU to not consider your environmental responsibility.

ChippingInNeedsCoffee · 15/07/2012 20:43

If you haven't you should tell them about the tights and what you have said about the postage - they should compensate you for the loss of the tights and give you something to make up for the hassle really. Have you washed the other one to see if it does the same - I would! They will definitely send you a postage label to send it back.
