I just like Alpen, always have, always will. Own brand budgie food is not Alpen.

He's been trying to fool me now for about 10 years.

Leave the bastard?

Yes, Dorset Cereals is a good brand but it's too expensive for me, unfortunately. I use Sainsbury's Fruit and Nit muesli and it's superb. The price has just come down to £3.79 for 1Kg. I pick out the hazels and almonds and eat them separately. Mmmm.

RuleBritannia · 15/07/2012 12:00

Nut not nit! as far as I know

mummyinspain · 15/07/2012 12:24

I´m with you OP. Many things can be substitued for own brand but Aplen is not one of them. Nor is Heize Tom Ketchup (according to DP) shall I go on?

I buy Alpen as a treat occassionally as over here it is mega bucks, but DP would Never try and fob me off with an alternate, nor would I for Tom K, it´s all about respect.

Kayano · 15/07/2012 12:39

DH tried to get me with...

Get this...

Unsalted Lurpac!!!

Why?!?! Why?!?!!

Fucking cunt

TodaysAGoodDay · 15/07/2012 12:42

Unsalted butter is the work of the devil IMO.

I like Alpen but only the tropical one, so no help there OP.

FarelyKnuts · 15/07/2012 12:56

Ah well in that case I would definitely leave the bastard!
No bloody respect. Its not about the Alpen it is really its about him not being able to read your mind and know this annoys the shit out of you! FFS.. Has the man learnt nothing yet? What kind of training are you giving him?? :o

gordyslovesheep · 15/07/2012 12:58

mine used to buy 'I Can't Believe It's Not Butter' ...I fucking could and I left him - I now have Lurpack and am happy

thebody · 15/07/2012 13:01

Mine brought, get this,, SMART PRICE TINNED CARROTS!!!!!

Vile vile vile!!!

thatlldopigthatlldo · 15/07/2012 15:18

this is gaslighting, he's just sat on the other end of the sofa eating cheesecake and watching the tour de france on the telly.

i'm going to go start packing. Grin

thatlldopigthatlldo · 15/07/2012 15:19

smart price tinned carrots! thanks for the perspective.

Socknickingpixie · 15/07/2012 15:54

It very much depends on why he's substituting, is it because of money issues and needing to keep your weekly shop down as much as possible if so is he also substituting branded products that he prefers? If so yabu

if not then leave the bastard Grin

thatlldopigthatlldo · 15/07/2012 18:00

well the children are having smoked salmon in their sandwiches Hmm, but he's normally mr frugal tight wad.

tinkertitonk · 15/07/2012 23:13

Sitting on the sofa eating cheesecake and watching the tour de france...

That is so very wrong. My DH goes to the park to eat kebabs and watch the suckers people doing boot camp.

shockers · 15/07/2012 23:28

I used to like Alpen.

These days I find eggs are better.

Try eggs.

holyfishnets · 15/07/2012 23:33

When in tescos next buy 6 boxes of alpen and he will just have to use them!

lovebunny · 15/07/2012 23:34

don't buy alpen, its rubbish. buy the ingredients and make up your own muesli.

AmberLeaf · 15/07/2012 23:43

I really want some Alpen now.

thatlldopigthatlldo · 16/07/2012 21:37

this morning the conversation went like this...

me,'oh, i don't like that muesli, could you buy me some alpen next time'
him, 'but this one is less 'dusty'.
me, 'but i like alpen'
him, 'ok'
me, 'yeah?'
him,, 'yep, fine'.

so fucking reasonable! sorry, pointless thread. Grin

FarelyKnuts · 16/07/2012 22:40

Hahaha..

Award for the most pointless rant ever goes to.... :o

AmberLeaf · 16/07/2012 22:48

I wouldn't relax yet OP.

I reckon he's still gonna buy the cheap shit and put it into an Alpen box.

He caved way too quickly on this IMHO

thatlldopigthatlldo · 17/07/2012 17:52

i will keep a superstitious eye on him, don't worry. Grin
