Beautiful singing voice and liking the lyrics. Going into my favourites. How did you know about her?

MammaTJ · 14/07/2012 22:10

Awesome!! How ever did you find her? Do you know her personally?

Lucyellensmum99 · 14/07/2012 22:13

It is a cover song? Beautiful song. I can identify with the lyrics, so much.

Lucyellensmum99 · 14/07/2012 22:13

It was my teenage angst album, as it were - i just love it

I've heard her before! She's very much a cross between Carole King and Joni Mitchell, both of whom I love! Great song too!!

foosty · 14/07/2012 22:14

Wogan always played this when he did the breakfast show.

Lucyellensmum99 · 14/07/2012 22:19

I LOVE that song. I've been a Janis Ian fan for a long time though :)

Booette · 14/07/2012 22:28

I love this song. It used to be played quite a bit on the local radio when I was a teenager, so it resonated with my awkward teenage self.

laptopcomputer · 14/07/2012 22:29

She is a Radio 2 favourite

SoleSource · 14/07/2012 22:30

Lucy my mood is exactly that tonight. Another in my favourites. :(

LentillyFart · 14/07/2012 22:31

My best friend 30 years ago gave me a Janis Ian album - loved her then and still love her now. Glad you posted this - reminds me that some fucker borrowed my CD and never returned it. Off to Amazon I go!

SoleSource · 14/07/2012 22:35

I love this too

ThePan · 14/07/2012 22:35

Janis Ian is still alive and I think still works in a music school type place in Chicago. The ravaged faces bit is a reflection of her experience as she had dreadful skin as a teenager. Though she wrote the song when she was 24. And she still proudly plays this at concerts.
This is on my 'bookmark' list.
There are other At 17 videos that show her through the ages - she was an utter stunner.

Lucyellensmum99 · 14/07/2012 22:45

when i was 18 i was quite promiscuous (sp), i was so desperate for a boyfirend that would sleep around because i fooled myself tht this was what men wanted - in my own vain mind I fancied this as my song.

so old, so old. another memory on unreasonable tonight.

Viperidae · 14/07/2012 23:41

I loved Janis Ian and listened to her a lot in my angsy-ridden youth. I have been watching out for any of her CDs in the shops with no luck. I'll have to try Amazon too.

Nancy66 · 14/07/2012 23:43

i see Celine Dion has covered At Seventeen. Won't be clicking on that video....my god that woman can kill a beautiful song

BustersOfDoom · 14/07/2012 23:58

Thanks for posting this. It is one of my all time favourites.

BestIsWest · 15/07/2012 00:14

One of my all time favourites. Thank you for reminding me of it. Off to download now.

Brightspark1 · 15/07/2012 00:24

I had the LP in the seventies. It summed up exactly how I felt, never fitting in, being useless at sport etc.
I listen it to it now and still makes me cry... Over and over again.
I bought the CD "Between the Lines" from Amazon.
I recommend the track "bright lights and promises"
