Aibu to want to drop my dd off at the school gate until all talk of collections is over? Yesterday the discussion, heated, between the organiser and another mother was about how the collection should be split between the teacher and assistants and in five minutes the relative workloads, salaries, status and personal attributes of teachers versus assistants had all been brought up. I just kept saying my distance and pretended not to hear.

I don't miss the school gates now that DC are older for just this sort of reason. Some people's lives seem to be centred completely round the school.

YANBU. Although I miss some of the school gate chatter now ddtwins are big girls at big school, this sort of thing I'm very glad to know I will not be going through again!

The whole concept is ridiculous. Are teachers not mortified to be handed a voucher for £200?

Birdsgottafly · 14/07/2012 10:43

My DD is in a SEN school, so the parents don't see each other, which i think is a shame.

I would rather club together and get a voucher than keep buying boxes of Maltesers and 3 for £10 bottles of wine.

I can remember when I was 11 and just about to leave primary school, we (ie the children) had a discussion about getting the teacher a present. We all clubbed together with our pocket money - I think it was 1/0d so you can see how long ago it was, and bought the teacher some Wade Whimsies. That's the way teachers' gifts ought to go - nothing to do with the parents at all.

The idea of the collection is perfect. The trouble is, amounts get dictated and people get funny about what it's spent on. Keep it simple. Then the teacher ends up with a voucher for something nice, everyone spends less and it's all good.
