There I was yesterday minding me own business when I get clapped by a Skoda. Not only did the guy reverse into me once, no, he stops and the carries on reversing into me, hitting me again.

Not one person asked me if I was OK.

Seriously, what would you do if you hit someone? Surely you'd get out and apologise? Not this twat. He just parked up and sodded off after a casual "I didn't see you".

So cross!

I hope you let the air out of his tyres and keyed the paintwork had a strong word with him! What a dick.

hettiebull · 13/07/2012 16:03

Technically you are meant to look over your shoulder not in the mirror (so my driving instructor told me). But sounds like this idiot didn't do either so YANBU in the circumstances... hoe you got his details.

TheLazyGirlBlog · 13/07/2012 16:06

Yeah we did.

The woman who took my statement said she did wonder if being lunchtime he'd possibly had a few to drink so didn't want to get out the car.

Either that or he was petrified my other half was about to smack him one!

Was it my father?!

He drives a skoda awfully

Yadnbu. Bad driving. Hope you got his details.

TheSurgeonsMate · 13/07/2012 16:13

You were on foot? And he didn't apologise Shock? I mean, some people think you shouldn't apologise for insurance reasons, but then those people wouldn't say "I didn't see you" either Confused.

SoleSource · 13/07/2012 16:38

You were in a car or on foot? and this Shock

TheLazyGirlBlog · 14/07/2012 08:39

Yep was on foot, had popped to the parade of shops near me after picking up my youngest from Nursery (luckily he stayed in the car with my OH).

No, no apology, just a "didn't see you" and off he went.

Did you call the police? Hope you're not hurt. Bastard!

MagicDougal · 14/07/2012 09:10

I don't understand this??? I take it he was in the road and you stepped behind him. Did he suddenly start reversing in which case YANBU or did you step out behind a reversing car ie were his white reversing lights on knwoing that???

The flip side of this is something which drives me insane is me trying to reverse into a parking space whilst idiot pedestrians decide to walk behind you. It's particularly bad with children because they're not always immediately obvious and my Dad always said never walk behind a reversing car because the driver has so many things to think about and you can't always see the full length of the back of the car. Sometimes it's too late as someone steps into your blind side. As a reversing motorist you are checking side mirrors to ensure you're positioned correctly as well as looking in the rear view mirror and physically turning round (although as I have a back problem this is limited). I do always check before I start manoevering that no one is behind me but am constantly amazed at the people who think it's ok to step into the gap behind a reversing car and I teach my chidlren never to do this.

mercibucket · 14/07/2012 09:17

This has happened to me and the kids loads. Once at school. Stupid cow just slammed it into reverse and backed straight onto the flipping zebra crossing without looking. Believe me, it was not a case of: put in reverse, look behind you, manoevre (which gives you time to hop out of the way!). Had to hammer on back of car before she squished my kids. Not a word of apology. Same in tescos. And elsewhere. People drive like knobs

SaraBellumHertz · 14/07/2012 10:24

Jeez op hope you're ok - but why on earth weren't you able to get out the way second time round Confused

MardyBra · 14/07/2012 10:29

I agree with Magic Dougall. Unless he suddenly started reversing, you have a duty of care to yourself not to walk behind a car which is obviously going backwards.

I'd say the same thing about pedestrians who walk in front of a car which is about to pull out of a junction.

fairyfriend · 14/07/2012 10:29

Yes, I'm interested in whether he was already reversing when you stepped out or not.

HecateHarshPants · 14/07/2012 10:32

Of course he should be looking, but I have to say that it drives me BONKERS the number of people who walk inches behind my car when I am in the middle of reversing. Hmm Car white lights on. Check. Car moving backwards. Check. Stride out behind car, forcing me to slam brakes on while you amble past? Check.

I'm not saying you did this Grin just that it triggered a rant Wink

The responsibility is still the driver's, as the one with the dangerous weapon! I just wish people would think and not walk directly behind a reversing vehicle.

Again. Not saying you did. Just that the one situation reminded me of the other.

I am very glad you are not injured. Drivers have a responsibility to have 10 pairs of eyes when doing manoeuvres like that.

MardyBra · 14/07/2012 10:35

Had to break sharply when a year 6 kid darted behind me while parking the other day. Had a word with the school to mention not to do this in assembly, but Ds tells me they didn't.

TheLazyGirlBlog · 14/07/2012 11:46

No, he wasn't reversing, he started to reverse when I was halfway across. The reason he hit me a second time was because I tried to step out the way after the car had pushed me backwards, but he just didn't give me a chance. I think he stopped and started again in a split second and not because he felt the car hit me, but because he thought the parking space he was waiting for the person already in it may not have enough room to get out, but there was plenty of room.

I know what you mean about kids/others walking out behind reversing cars but not the case here.
