To ask you for ideas to cure my very sore breasts!

I did search in "general health" and a few people posted with the same problem but there were only a few replies.

I have had pre-menstrual sore breasts in the past off and on. However, for the last year they have been worse.

Then, in the last two cycles I have had two weeks of really sore breasts leading up to my period.

Anyone got any cures? It must be such a common problem.

By the way I have tried starflower capsules and that coincided with them getting worse Confused.

I am 42 but don't think it is necessarily an age thing.

I have taken Evening Primrose oil for years and years and it has helped me a lot. I also have cut back on caffeinated drinks, so really only have 1 or 2 cups of caffeinated coffee a day, rest is decaff. I'm 55.

But I also had a patch of really sore boobs a year or so ago, when I despaired, but thankfully they stopped after a couple of weeks They were SO sore and uncomfortable when it was happening. I'm sorry you are getting them...really hope you find something to help....

cocolepew · 12/07/2012 11:31

Evening primrose oil, a high dose everyday.

Buttwart · 12/07/2012 11:31

Doctor? Hormones?

Hedgerow7 · 12/07/2012 11:40

Thanks folks. Coco, what would you call a high dose? Maybe EPO works better than starflower.

You could seek the help of a Medical Herbalist. I had this for months (along with irregular cycles) and my Medical Herbalist gave me a potion which meant it gradually stopped altogether. My understanding is that is it caused by hormonal imbalance, and addressing that can make a big difference. A good medical herbalist will assess your health and ask about any cycle patterns and make a remedy specific to you.

Buttwart · 12/07/2012 11:44

Is there a specific objection to a doctor?

cocolepew · 12/07/2012 11:48

Start with 3000mg, if you start to get relief you can cut it down, I wouldnt go lower than 1000mg. If you take 3000mg for 6 weeks and dont get relief it probably isnt going to help.

I was told by a breast nurse that mine were painful because I had a lot of gristle in my breast (lovely).

cocolepew · 12/07/2012 11:49

I never found Starflower oil to help.

Hedgerow7 · 12/07/2012 11:50

Buttwart, well, I guess I just wonder what they could do. A hormone test maybe?

I prefer the natural route and love the idea of seeing a medical herbalist. I shall look into that. I just hope it wouldn't be too many visits due to the cost.

Wearing an underwired padded bra helps to.

cocolepew · 12/07/2012 11:58

Oh and it could be and age thing, sorry!

rockinhippy · 12/07/2012 12:07

Acupuncture cured mine - I had horrendous problems made even worse by a diagnosis that means my brain turns up the volume on pain signals - it would also last for weeks at a time due to period problems

Went to an acupuncturist for other reasons & then realised I no longer had sore breasts - EVER - still haven't 10 yrs later :)

rockinhippy · 12/07/2012 12:08

Starflower oil is a more potent version of EPO - so if thats not working for you, EPO won't either I'm afraid

bossybeetroot · 12/07/2012 12:21

I have the same...from day 11 they are sore until my period. I have stopped having cow's milk/cheese and have goat's instead. Makes a huge difference as cow's milk has excessive amounts of estrogen in it due to farming methods, which was causing me to have sore breasts and heavy periods. Maryon Stewarts book No More PMS! was very helpful.

Sports bra, seems to help think its the Pressure

oldsilver · 12/07/2012 12:28

Yep, probably down to age Smile Keep some cotton hankies in the fridge and put them in your bra as and when soreness occurs. Cools down the area and also alleviates any seam rub too.

rockinhippy · 12/07/2012 12:28

PS - I just spotted your age - sorry but I too agree its an age/peri menopause thing too

Buttwart · 12/07/2012 12:33

Doctor just makes sense as you suspect hormones and are 42. Possibly in need of HRT.

If the natural route is what you prefer then fair enough!

Naoko · 12/07/2012 13:45

I had this really badly for ages. I finally got a bra that fit me properly (turned out, after being measured by someone competent, that I was wearing a bra two band sizes too large but three cup sizes too small) and it's gone. Just completely stopped. Might be worth a try?

Hedgerow7 · 12/07/2012 15:09

Loads of ideas - thank you everyone, this is great.

I agree it could be age it's just that I know people of any age can have it so I hoped it wasn't a sign of things to come. It just felt a bit inevitable and made me feel powerless if I thought it was just age and age alone.

So, decent bra, medical herbalist, EPO, less dairy (I don't have much but could cut out what I do have), acupuncture, Maryon Stewart book and cotton hankies in the fridge. Brilliant.:)

It is great to hear that some people have got rid of it which is what I hoped. I shall look into all these ideas. Thank you all. Bless you and your painfree breasts. :)
