I feel a bit mean but im so sick of collecting for school its something every week, items for the school fair, sell raffle tickets, collect sponsors, voluntary contribution, school trip money.
On top of that is all the bloody clubs and childcare we pay out.

Atm i have a limited amount of cash per month once everythings been paid, and i would quite like to put it towards me if thats ok?
Plus they do a good job, but they also get paid for that job. I think the £200 they collect in JL vouchers at Xmas and year end is just ridiculous.

Of course you anbu. Your money, your choice.

Virgil · 11/07/2012 17:05

You're not obliged to and if you can't afford it then you shouldn't IMO. I opted out of the "let's all put in ten pounds per teacher" thing this year since it would have cost me sixty pounds. Instead I bought little gifts costing no more than £4 each and did the whole thing for £25

Teachers are well paid, and if they do a good job they deserve it.

But they are probably paid more than many of their childrens' parents, and they have longer holidays too (yes I know all the arguments about that).

So I think it's wrong that parents should be expected to pay money/buy gifts for the teachers. And it's particularly unreasonable that better-off parents should fix an amount and encourage/blackmail the others to pay money they can't afford.

Yanbu at all.

Personally I think the large value gifts are unethical.

I'm a teacher and I rarely get any presents at year end (secondary). I don't expect them, either. If a child writes a card for me I really appreciate it. I think this money collection must be a new thing, and confined to certain areas as I was never asked to when DD was in primary and, as far as I know, her father (a primary teacher) does not get vouchers/money at all.
Don't give it if you don't want to.

YANBU

Six weeks away from your child is the gift that keeps on giving.

JKSLtd · 11/07/2012 17:33

After a falling out re other collections I refuse to join in anymore.
The class rep person (alpha mum) can't believe it apparently as she had to check with me again yesterday.
