Reading through another name thread, I remember a friend who called her son Jack, even though her brother also had a Jack. AIBU to think that you should choose another first name for your child, even if you really like the name. How confusing for grandparents.

My sis once said she wanted to call her ds after my bro and i thought this strange.

Each child in the family should have a different name so that they can all be themselves/individuals.

As for those who have different kids with different woman. Is that so they dont get confused and dont get found about them having an affair. Hmm

Never mind, it was jermaine and I appear to have made that up in my head lol

PooPooInMyToes · 11/07/2012 19:51

It depends. Say it is a name which has special meaning for you but not for your sibling. They know this but decide to use the name anyway . . .

AKE2012 · 11/07/2012 19:52

@Kayano michael jackson named his sons the same so you werent far off :)

Kayano · 11/07/2012 19:53

I really thought Jermaine had too! Oh well

Fully admit to talking out of my arse Wink lol

George Foreman is the funniest.

Five sons named George. And a daughter Georgetta.

Yanbu

My sister chose the same first and middle for her ds 6 years after I used it for my ds. I thought it was really odd!

LiegeAndLief · 11/07/2012 19:59

My brother is called James and my cousin (who "got there first") is called Jamie - it's never been a problem.

Kayano · 11/07/2012 20:00

Odd Rachog I would have went off it!

She would not have got to register him I would have involved the whole family

[not nice person]

Noqontrol · 11/07/2012 20:01

I dont think its a big deal really. We have lots of davids in our family, brothers, cousins, uncles, and a couple that have married into the family called david too. It seems normal to me Grin

Rachog · 11/07/2012 20:46

Kayano, noone else seemed to think anything of it, but then another sister and my brother both have ds named james, obviously we.are not an imaginative family.

HecateHarshPants · 11/07/2012 20:56

re the family name thing. My dad's family always call the first born son Elijah.

But he's always known as Bob.

Even though no middle name is ever Robert Hmm

so when the son is born, it's Bob and Young Bob. Neither of whom are Bob.

My grandma refused to go along with this and called my dad something else.

He's still referred to by old folks who know the family as Young Bob.

Even though he is neither a Robert, nor an Elijah.

People are batshit crazy I tell you.

pumpkinsweetie · 11/07/2012 22:01

Noqontrol-i have lots of Davids in my family, must be a crazeGrin

Echocave · 11/07/2012 22:08

I don't have any 'same names in family' stories alas but I did read that one of Jermaine Jackson's children is called Jermajesty....
