to think this is another offer where tesco are deliberately trying to catch people out

DS had been having long sleeps at night 12-14 hours resulting in a leaky nappy a couple of times. I usually use own brand but saw offer on pampers at tesco so thought i'd try them.
sign up in front of pampers nappies 'any 2 for £20' so i got a box of size 6 baby dry for nights, then i wanted a box of size 5+ for using in the day but they don't do baby dry in 5+ so got active fit. Went to self scan and scanned through at 12.99 each, so £5.98 more than £20.

Check with staff member who went and had a look with me, he said no you have to buy either two active fit or two baby dry... how am i meant to know that, it says 'any 2 for £20' on both.

That'll teach me i usually get two packs of asda nappies for £10 but asda is abit of a trek whereas tesco is just down the road.

I'm always a bit wary of these offers in Tesco too. I don't know that they are trying to pull a fast one but sometimes the tickets aren't 100% clear.

Having said that I personally wouldn't expect two different types of nappies to be included in the offer.

Always best to check up first.

MothershipG · 10/07/2012 20:50

The other day they had a variety of washing liquids on an offer of 2 for £4.50, the washing liquid I buy, that appeared to be part of the offer, is £2 each! Hmm

You have to be soooo careful and sometimes even the staff are confused about what's included and what isn't.

kittyandthefontanelles · 10/07/2012 20:56

'Any' 2 should mean 'any' 2. Mix and match should be allowed. I hate Fucking Tesco. Cheating Fuckers. Sainsbury's do any 3 for a fiver on real ale....you can get ANY 3 under the same offer, ie you canix and match, a Kentish, a marstons and a badger, etc .

Yama · 10/07/2012 20:56

I hope you returned them and got your money back.

Morph2 · 10/07/2012 21:14

yama> i didn't actually pay for them as i was going through self scan so i noticed before i paid and then swapped them for another box of baby dry. This is an advantage of the self scan- you can check prices as you scan.

i've lost count of the times i've checked my receipt when i got home (or sometimes in the carpark of shop) and the offers or prices are wrong, if its only a £1 or £2 then its not always worth going back, then having to queue at customer services for 20 mins with a 2 year old

I hate those offers!

Tesco are also currently offering 12 cans of coke for £4 or 8 cans for £3.85 on buy one get one free... so 16 cans for 15p less than the 12 cans!

squeakytoy · 10/07/2012 21:24

"This is an advantage of the self scan- you can check prices as you scan."

You can see the prices as they go through on a regular till too in Tesco, and ask the cashier to check it before you pay.

Quip · 10/07/2012 21:25

Aldi and Lidl nappies are excellent and would cost half the price of those Tesco ones. Just saying :o

Yama · 10/07/2012 21:30

I'm glad Morph.

I second the Aldi ones by the way. £5 for about 48 and excellent quality.

smoggii · 10/07/2012 21:33

We swapped Pampers Babydry for Aldi 'Mamia' nappy - much better, far fewer leaks. Would recommend.

Tesco's offers are always misleading. Once it took four members of staff to work out what the offer meant. And I said don't you think your offers should be worded more clearly. And the supervisor said it was clear!

MotherOfSuburbia · 10/07/2012 21:36

I picked up a toy in the sale section in Tesco today with no price on and asked the lady at the till to check the price for me before she put my other shopping through. It actually turned out to be full price and I didn't want it but she had scanned it by mistake so needed a supervisor to come and delete it.
The supervisor took a long time to come (so long that I considered buying the bloody thing just to get out of there) and when she was told it needed deleting as I didn't want to buy it, she turned round and said, "Well, you just need to make up your mind, don't you?" Excellent Tesco customer service.

FartyMcTarty · 10/07/2012 21:42

On the subject of Pampers leaks I'm.finding Baby Dry bloody useless lately - having to wash sheets most days. Leaks if she lies on her tummy, even if I change her during the night. The other evening the one I'd just put on her leaked too! She's in size 5 and about 4lbs above the min weight. 4+ leak too though.

Aldi's the opposite side of town to us so not convenient. Any other suggestions?

Sorry for the world's most boring hijack Grin

Morph2 · 10/07/2012 22:02

what size to aldi's nappies go up to as last time i was in our local one they only had up to a size 5 and these are getting a bit tight on DS now.

Also i'm abit skint so wanted to pay on credit card (which i pay off in full at end of month), do aldi accept credit cards now as they only used to accept debit cards?

DowagersHump · 10/07/2012 22:09

Asda are just as bad. Bigger pack, better value! 8 for £3.00.

Only underneath are 4 for £1 Angry which they aren't shouting about

Yama · 10/07/2012 22:14

I think they only go up to 5. We are hoping that's as big as we'll need (ds has a teeny bum).

Don't know about credit card sorry.

BrianButterfield · 10/07/2012 22:15

Farty (I did a little hee hee typing that!) try the Pampers Simply Dry in the orange pack. They actually have less padding/gel stuff but it solved a recurrent poo-up-back situation for us. Plus, cheaper.

cheesesarnie · 10/07/2012 22:18

lidls go up to size 6 i think.

this is why i ignore offers and stick to my list! plus I'm tight

UnnamedFemaleProtagonist · 10/07/2012 22:21

Morrisons own nappies are £1.50 and are brilliant. I've never bought premium nappies because I prefer to spend my money on vodka.

AWimbaWay · 10/07/2012 22:27

That's really not on. I did the two for £16 deal in boots today and that was mix and match, it's so confusing and like you I would have presumed it was the same in tesco.

Googol · 10/07/2012 22:44

I got caught out by Tescos last week. Half price on Johnson's Baby Bath, the sign underneath a fully stocked shelf of Johnson's Moisturising Baby Bath only. Assumed it was the right one as no other in sight (or empty space to suggest otherwise).

More fool me.

When I got home, I realised I had been charged £6.40 for 2 bottles!

Bad form Tesco.

emsyj · 10/07/2012 22:44

Agree that Aldi nappies are brilliant - I buy size 5 for DD who is 2.2 and big for her age, they're plenty big enough (including at night) and I notice that their size 5 are much much larger than the Morrisson's own brand size 5 (which I find leak as the largest size isn't big enough for DD) and also bigger than Tesco own brand size 5. So worth trying them out.

I was buying 2 for £3.50 sleeved bibs for DD ages ago and the offer didn't register on the till - it was about £1.03 or something that I would save and normally I would think 'oh well who cares' but I was feeling belligerent that day so I challenged it and it took 3 assistants and 20 minutes to get the money off - they are definitely sneaky in that respect, they hope you won't faff around enforcing the offers I reckon.

fuzzypicklehead · 10/07/2012 23:00

If you check out the grabbit board on MSE, there are always people who find glitches in the Tesco pricing system like this and exploit them to their advantage.

OP, if the sign said "any two", then they have to honor it. If you had bought them and then gone to customer service to complain, you would have been entitled to Double The Difference back--So £11.96 refund + take the nappies away.

(Not that I would recommend going back and purchasing the same items multiple times to take advantage of the store's policy. Because that would be wrong.)

howitis · 10/07/2012 23:12

I did the same as you OP a few moths back and was told had to be 2 of the same. I pointed out any 2 for £20 but customer service having none of it, especially no double the difference. They were also advertising this on TV so as I had nothing better to do I reported them to trading standards! Signs for any 2 for £20 were removed when I went in the next day. Asda are better for nappies :)
