to wonder how babies survived before cranial and spinal osteopathy

Feeling slightly irritated at SIL who swears by every fad going for her fractious baby. Could it not just be that she is a normal little baby, not one with a 'twisted spine' amongst other things. And why does MIL think SIL cannot possibly drive anywhere with the baby in case she cries, when i was expected to drive with puking travel sick baby and toddler.

They survived the same way people who can't afford it do, although it helped DS who after a traumatic birth didn't seem to be able to feed from one side and it was clear he was struggling to move his neck that way...

It seems like you are more annoyed that you didnt say "no" where as SIL is saying no and it's being accepted. Start saying "no, I can't do that drive" and see what happens. Your SIL isn't responsible for your decision to agree to drive with a puking baby, just for for her decision she doesn't want to drive with a crying baby.

Don't agree to things that don't work for you and then be surprised that others don't do the same and everyone accepts it.

Thats the thing. We did say 'no' and were bombarded by telephone calls from MIL and SIL (pre baby), who told us we shouldn't let the dc 'dictate what we do'. Although we didn't listen to them it really upset dh.

I know my feelings about the osteopathy are because i am annoyed about all the unhelpfulness we had with our dc, and MIL lack of interest in them but verging on obsession with SIL baby.

Just because we didn't always have the ability to relieve common things like post-birth discomfort in babies doesn't mean we shouldn't do it now.

It is like saying "How did women manage without epidurals?" Some of them had extremely uncomfortable and frightening births, that is how.

Human babies have large heads relative to the birth canal and they get squished and shoved about during the birth process. Many babies will be just fine, but some will have discomfort for a while. I have had 2 rapid deliveries and while DS1 did not have any ill effects, DS2 was the faster birth and had a hand by his jaw. He had feeding problems which turned out to be partly due to a posterior tongue-tie, but the tongue-tie specialist couldn't evaluate him properly because his jaw was very tight and his head slightly wonky. She recommended cranial osteopathy and his head changed shape substantially over 3 sessions and his feeding improved noticeably as his jaw started moving better.

I'm not someone who buys into every fad - we don't have the latest baby gadgets and we don't go to any classes, but I would spend the cranial osteopathy money again as it helped us a lot.

YANBU, they managed fine just as they do now.
