To think an end of year report should tell me how dd is doing?

Her report talks about a lot of very nice things which I get are important.

She works hard, is enthusiastic, contributes well, is mature in her approach and a pleasure to teach. She's enjoyed various subjects, there are examples of particular projects that she's enjoyed, she accepts that people have different views, she liked making an advert for cat slippers, etc.

But there is nothing that tells me if she is working at the level that she should be. Not a thing.

Then there's the copy and paste mistake where there's another kid's name halfway through. Along with some general waffle about a project that dd says she didn't do.

This is Yr6. I'd have no idea from the report if she was bottom of the class and trying hard or top of the class.

That's shit!

I'd take it to the Head to be honest

VivaLeBeaver · 09/07/2012 16:28

There are 2 pages of absolute bollocks if I'm honest.

There should be a loose sheet with her SAT levels on and an explanation of what level they should be working at by the end of Yr6.

Sounds like the teacher has been a bit if a lazy bum with the C&P - not very professional Sad is there a comment sheet or do you have a drop in session to discuss reports - if so use those and raise it with the Head

Same with Ds' I am not impressed. It's a load of computer generated bollocks. He is AS and the majority of the report is not 'him' .... it even says "DS dresses and undresses independently" ..... eh, he point blank refuses to get dressed or undressed at school and this is an ongoing issue. He is 5 ffs, it is not hard to do a decent report.
We have parents evening tomorrow, I'll be having words.

There's a comments sheet. I've commented that I find hte report a bit useless, that I know we'll get SATS scores next week but I';m more interested in how the teacher thinks she's done throughout the year. Is that a fair point?

I would rather have her teacher say yes, she's fine and is where she needs to be. A good SATS score could be a fluke and not indicitive of her expected/ususal performance or vice versa.

At the end I put "I have no idea who X is but I'm very pleased she's learned to use Powerpoint".

Shouldn't year 6 have sats results in?

I've had two reports one from yr 2 told me loads.

One from reception nothing - absolutely nothing. I've gone in to speak to them but apparently it not a copy and past job but a software thing the original values we could have found meanings for but its not clear from the sentences.

I've asked yet again about specific areas of concern - they have none. They won't say he's doing well, or struggling or has any areas he better at or worse they have no concerns and that it - all we get.

arf at cat slippers' advert! Would love to see that ...Smile

But yes - things they have included are very useful to know but that comes under 'social interaction/work ethic/habits' section (just under a third of entire document) in dd's end of term report (she is 8).

Fyi - the rest of it is taken up with specific marks (either A - D or marks out of ten) against each subject heading: Language/comprehension, Maths, French, World Orientation (which is Hist and Geog to you and me), PE, Religion, Music, Cooking and Sewing (the most important ones have about four or five sub-categories with specific marks too) ie against French there are marks for oral expression, writing, conjugasion, expression in writing and in grammar plus overall mark. So it's very easy to spot exactly what a child needs to focus on and most importantly, child herself has clear idea too.

Should have added we live abroad so not UK curriculum.
