To think when I say "I am not interested, thank you" that

I mean i am not interested. I don't mean i am not interested at this moment in time but I might be if you carry on with your sales speil, carrying on with the speil when I have told you a second time, politely, I am not interested, is still not going to sway me into buying a warranty for a 10 year old washing machine and in fact is just going to get my back up. Making me repeat myself for a third time is you being bloody rude and you are lucky I didn't unleash hell!

Fucking telephone sales!

Have you registered with TPS?

GlitterySkulls · 09/07/2012 15:38

i would have hung up after s/he ignored me the first time.

Sirzy · 09/07/2012 15:39

Just hang up!

EXmrsmascarahead · 09/07/2012 15:40

I have registered, it looks like I need to do it again.

After reading a few threads on here, I decided to remember that they are humans, so I was polite but not anymore!

Was there a reason you'd carried on with the conversation for more than five seconds in the first place?

TeWiDoesTheHulaInHawaii · 09/07/2012 15:51

Say, "I'm not interested" and then immediately hang up. That's polite.

TPS is not the answer to everything though, they can't do anything about fucking recorded message spam/sales/phonecalls and they are driving me demented.

WorraLiberty · 09/07/2012 15:54

No, once you're registered you don't need to register again unless you've changed your phone number (although even then they auto updated for me)

Just don't entertain anything they say.

I always say, "Can I just stop you there? Do you know I'm registered with TPS? Please take my details off your database...thank you."

Very occasionally I've had someone argue, "But it's a survey, we're not selling anything"....to which I simply reply "Remove my number now please"

I've only ever had to report one company for not removing me.

Ithinkitsjustme · 09/07/2012 15:57

or just leave your phone dangling, they pay for the call and you don't care

EXmrsmascarahead · 09/07/2012 16:08

I had already had a door to door salesman today asking if I wanted to waterproof my house, I said the same thing to him, he went away. Stupidly I thought being polite to the telesales woman might work the same. The third time I did say How many times do I have to say... Before you understand I am not interested.
I've tried 'remove my details' they do but then use my DCs names next time they call and they say the company name that blood fast you can't take note of it, next time I will be fully armed.

Depending on whose calling I have said, sorry that person has recently died......; I will report you to Trading Standards for breaking the terms of the TPS (rubbish I believe, but frequently works); didn't answer at all and held the phone to the radio until they hung up; my house is listed, I don't want your replacement doors/windows/conservatory.

Generally I'm not rude to them as I feel so sorry for them, but if they start getting arsey then I do answer back.

WorraLiberty · 09/07/2012 16:11

Then ask them the company name again and ask them to spell it. The only way to stop them is to report them...it doesn't matter whose name they use, they mustn't phone your number.

I haven't had a call now for about 8 months or more.

Jemma1111 · 09/07/2012 16:12

I try and be polite at first when I say I'm not interested thankyou , however if they ignore me and keeping banging on then 'fuck off ' usually works for me !

WorraLiberty · 09/07/2012 16:12

Oh and don't listen to anyone who tells you to leave the phone off the hook/hand it to your child/blow a whistle down it etc....

The sales people won't give a shiny shite because there'll doubtless be loads of them in the one office so the chances of that exact person ringing you back are minimal.

You need to get them to delete your number.

appleate · 09/07/2012 16:36

I am very ashamed to say I once worked cold calling people. We were given pages out of a phone book about five years old. If someone we rand mentioned the tps we were told to apologise and tell the person we'd remove their number from our database. We'd really just score out the number.
Either a no thanks and put the phone down or if they're trying to sell kitchens etc then say you live in a council house and they'll be off the phone asap.
