I think I am BU a bit cos it's not like it's affecting just me Confused and I don't normally let the weather bother me too much but I'm really finding it's getting me down. Maybe worse because I had a leak in my roof and every time it rains I worry about it and also because my dcs about to go off on a summer holiday so I'm having to pack all their summer gear and stay here alone in this Envy

It's July FFS. I am so fed up of the rain. It has spoilt so many things so far. I'm not after glorious hot weather, just dry!

sneezecakesmum · 08/07/2012 21:06

No. Its bloody awful, though not raining for most of the weekend here, which surprised me. Forecast for the next few days though. Sad You are B very R to be pissed off. So is most of the country!

gordyslovesheep · 08/07/2012 21:07

Oh I feel your pain - mine are off to Spain with their Dad in 2 weeks - the weather is 29 and sunny - I would pack myself in a suitcase but I think his girlfriend wouldn;t like it!

MyCarHasBrokenDownAgain · 08/07/2012 21:19

YADNBU! We do a lot of classic car rallies, pretty much all of them have been crap this year because of the weather! I also like boot fairs ... all been cancelled for weeks (and pity the poor traders who rely on rallies and boot fairs for income Sad).

We went to a rally today, it was like a fecking swamp! TBH the only reason we went is I wanted something from one of the craftspeople, and this is the only rally in our area they attend. I did suggest trying to do doughnuts in the middle of the field (in a Morris Minor ha ha!) but my friends didn't fancy being banned ...

And I won't mention our ruined camping holiday, or the fact that I can never get any washing dry (christ I'm a whiny old bag!).

KatherineKavanagh · 08/07/2012 21:24

So glad I didn't splash out (Grin) on a barbecue and garden furniture for my new house!!

QueenStromba · 08/07/2012 21:30

I read an article in The Telegraph the other day about how there is an outbreak of rickets expected due to the lack of sunshine this summer. Lack of vitamin D has also been linked to depression so chances are there is an actual biological reason for the weather making you feel depressed.

sarahseashell · 08/07/2012 21:30

katherine that did raise a smile at least on my otherwise Sad face

gordyslovesheep it really helps to know there's another in same boat! I too have considered trying to squeeze self into suitcase Grin

thankyou to all you lovely people I feel better for sharing the pain of the rain. Still wish it would stop though - STOP! so I can put away the jumpers! How on earth will we fortify ourselves enough for winter? Maybe summer will in fact materialise in a couple of weeks??

thanks queenstromba I think the lack of sunlight and sky etc is really a factor in terms of health

Go and have a look at AIBU to be enjoying this weather and cheer yourself up! Smile

germyrabbit · 08/07/2012 21:33

july is like this alot now isn't it, i have been in the garden this evening though and it's lovely, all sluggy

wanttomakeadifference · 08/07/2012 21:37

I couldn't agree more. I almost feel as though I'm preprogrammed to need some nice weather during spring / summer and I'm feeling low without it.

I feel a bit petty complaining about it when (as OP says) its affecting us all, and it's not a massive deal but it is making me feel low.

We went out on our bikes in it today, got soaked to the skin but I just couldn't sit inside any longer.

It ruined our village Jubilee Celebrations and fete, we've not had any picnics, BBQs or much outside fun. The garden looks awful, cellar is flooded and roof is leaking.

RAIN RAIN EFF ORF!!

BrigitBigKnickers · 08/07/2012 21:41

Oh I know how you feel- I am thoroughly fed up of it all- it's just relentless. We bought a boat in April and have been out on it twice in the past three months- weather has been just too miserable wet and windy to use it.

The Olympics is going to be miserable if this keeps up!

Off to Portugal in a few weeks- can't wait!

amieis · 08/07/2012 21:42

yadnbu
I think me and dp were getting cabin fever as we have been stuck in the house all day with each other for 5 whole days now. I was ready to lock him outside in it if he said "fucking rain" one more time (fortunately he's gone to work now and survived punishment!!)
Also, parents live in spain, and am currently devising some devilish penalty for the next time they ring to tell me how lovely and hot it is over there Envy

QueenStromba · 08/07/2012 21:50

Seriously though - if you're feeling depressed cos of the weather then you should try taking a vitamin D supplement.

AllPastYears · 08/07/2012 22:02

Only a bit depressing?!

Aaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! That's what I say!

Though to be honest the people I feel really sorry for are the ones whose livelihoods are being hit. I'm guessing the 100's of cancelled events have mainly had insurance against bad weather, but all the outdoor attractions, landscape gardeners, cycling businesses, riding schools etc. will have been badly hit - in fact I guess the whole retail sector has too. Who is buying summer clothes/picnic tables/sun loungers?

Guess the umbrella sellers and purveyors of plastic ponchos are doing well, though.

wanttomakeadifference · 08/07/2012 22:31

That's interesting Queenstromba, I knew that lack of sunshine can lead to depleted vitamin D levels and associated problems with bone density. I didn't realise it had been directly linked to depression- might explain why I feel ridiculously cheerful for the short time that the sun shines, and thoroughly fed up when the weather is rubbish.

larks35 · 08/07/2012 22:55

YANBU at all, I'm so fed up with it. Had DD in April and was so hoping to enjoy some sunny weather with her and DS (3.5) while on maternity leave. But oh no, and it doesn't sound like it is going to get any better soon Sad.

My dad who is as weather obsessed as I am, cannot in his 74 years remember a spring/summer as bad as this and he grew up in the North East and now lives South East. If we weren't so skint I would seriously be looking to emigrate.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but it is going to rain until September.

QueenStromba · 08/07/2012 23:08

We're well overdue a long, hot summer now - the last time we had more than two weeks of uninterrupted sunshine was 2006. The really hot summer before that was 2003.

Don't say that! Shock

I can't take much more as it is.

noelstudios · 08/07/2012 23:12

I'm ok with the rain. My twins went bonkers when it was hot. Wouldn't sleep - the loft conversion was boiling hot. I didn't cope. And you don't have to wear skimpy clothes when it is raining. I am totally ok with wearing my kagoul for the next couple of months....

LucieMay · 08/07/2012 23:50

Problem is it's hot AND raining. Walking/commuting on public transport is nightmarish. At least when it's cold and raining you can put on a coat and feel comfortable and when it's just hot they'll open the windows on the bus. A bus in hot weather with no windows open is awful and I often wear no coat in this weather and get drenched because I cannot stand being so hot and sweaty!

LucieMay · 08/07/2012 23:51

Also, events keep getting cancelled round here left right and centre: a few local carnivals and ds's outdoor football training and matches keep getting cancelled due to waterlogged pitches (as well his sports day).
