ok ok I know I'm being unreasonable but just come back from watching Ice Age which is very good btw and all I heard all the way through the film was...

mum is that a squirel?
mum, can I go the the toilet?
mum, why is that elephant hairy?
mum I need a wee
mum, I don't want to sit next to him
mum I really need to go this time!!!!
mum, she's taken all the popcorn
mum why are the hamsters dancing
mum, I need a poo now
I don't like the monkey (include lots of crying with this statement)
daddy, can I sit on your knee?
how come he can sit on your knee when I can't?
I'm not too big, when's it my turn
mmmuuuuuummmmm can I go for a wee -I'm bursting!!

and they weren't my DCs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

the family in front of us were up and down 6 times during the film -frustrating for them but their choice to take a 2&4 year old!

and breathe -now I have got that off my chest Grin

YABU, it's. It just small children. I went to watch the Davinci Code, a few years back, and sat in front of a mother and her son, (11 ish). He spent the first half of the film asking her what was going on. She then explaining to him. I was so pissed off after an hour or so, I turned round and told her to "for Gods sake SHUT UP"! Thankfully she got the message and kept quiet, rather than punching my lights out! Confused
There's no accounting for badly behaved people, and they aren't always children!

PastaLadyHasNameChangedForThis · 08/07/2012 19:47

Blush I want to take 6mo dd.

Groovee · 08/07/2012 19:50

If it's a kids movie, then no, but it did annoy me going to see a 12a and having got a babysitter, than a couple with a baby allowed it to cry through the first 90 minutes.

pumpkinsweetie · 08/07/2012 19:50

Yabu-it was the parents at fault, maybe bad parents should be bannedGrin

rainydaysarebad · 08/07/2012 19:59

I only take DD on a weekday morning when everyone is at work and school. Last two times we went, we were the only ones in the cinema!
So, you're not being entirely unreasonable. There should be specific times for families with younger children.

On another topic, would any of you take a 4.5 year old to watch Spiderman? I know it's a 12A, but DD loves Spiderman and she doesn't get scared of things. Would they let her in?

Needstotidyup · 08/07/2012 20:00

Yabu it was the parents fault OR you could have moved seats. My CDs have been going since 3 months old and were all fine, if noisy I would go into the entrance corridor and settle to sleep (baby), then return to seat.

It is a good film though and worth paying extra for 3d which I usually don't bother doing. Just as funny as original not like Shrek which went downhill after number 2!!IMO

MigratingCoconuts · 08/07/2012 20:00

I can remember being in a film with an old bloke sitting behind me. He had long legs and his knees were right by my head. He spent the film resting his glasses case on his knees and slowly and repeatedly scratching his fingernails across the leather.

I finally cracked and (politely I felt, given the stress I was under) asked him to stop.

Luckily, he did, otherwise there would have been a murder committed.

AllieZ · 08/07/2012 20:01

Kids of all ages who can't behave should be banned. From anywhere in public.

youarekidding · 08/07/2012 20:07

IME some of the

Tanith · 08/07/2012 20:07

Mmm! My little brother absolutely ruined Bambi when my mum took us to see it.

"Mum, when does his mum get shot? When? Is she getting shot in a minute? Will she get shot after this bit?"

Half way through the film, there was a bang and a silence. Little children, realising what had happened, began to sob.

"Mum! Is she shot now? Was that it?"

StuntGirl · 08/07/2012 20:11

YANBU.

Adults who don't know how to sit through a film should be banned with them.

LadyofWinterfell · 08/07/2012 20:13

Pasta my local cinema does specific screenings for mothers with babies, provide changing facilities and the film is shown at a lower volume. Maybe there's comething similar near you? It's a Showcase btw.

Op, Yanb(very)u. I haven't taken Ds (nearly 3) yet as he could not sit through a film. Both DDs were ready by 2.6ish. I would remove them from the cinema if they were causing a problem, but then i have manners and think about the others around me!

Thatsnotmypenguin · 08/07/2012 20:17

YABU, it's a U-rated children's film....

kerala · 08/07/2012 20:18

YABU if its a children's film. Fair enough if not.

DH and I go to the cinema quite a lot but only to the arts cinema where everyone behaves beautifully "terribly sorry no Im terribly sorry etc etc" Would never set foot in a multiplex again shudder.

Hmm. A few times back when I went someone was stabbed in the cinema by a teenager who had an arguement over sitting in reserved seats. I think they should ban all teenagers too.

Oh dear... the cinemas are closing down as we've banned everyone.

I think there should be more proactive staff to ask people to take noisy children out. Most places once the sceening starts the staff leave.

hmc · 08/07/2012 20:20

Yabu - depends on the 5 year old. Parents should have some consideration and ensure their children are not too loud and disruptive however - the children you described sound a pain in the arse

NowThenWreck · 08/07/2012 20:22

Everyone who CAN'T SHUT THE FUCK UP should be banned from the cinema, regardless of age.

UnSocialite · 08/07/2012 20:25

Our local cinema has special viewings for parents to take very young children (aimed at under 3 I believed). IMO that's a great compromise, but YABU to think kids should be banned from a (kids) film.

MagicDougal · 08/07/2012 20:29

When DS2 was about 6-8 weeks old we went o the cinema to see Shark Tales because I desperately needed something entertain DS1 (4) who was feeling a bit neglected. As a sat down in front of a group of teenage girls I heard some rather uncomplimentary comments re the 'stupid woman' bringing a baby etc etc.

DS1&2 behaved beautifully. DS2 slept and BF'd whilst DS1 watched the film without fuss.

The teenagers however lost interest in the film at an early point and decided it was ok to chat, giggle innanely, eat crips/popcorn/sweets loudly and at various intervals get up enmasse to do whatever teenage girls do in the toilet.

So no it's not down to age although I do question people who take two and three year olds who are unable to behave but carry on sitting there oblivious to the annoyance they're causing (esp. with the 'loud parents' who actually think we are all impressed that their three old is asking idiotic questions all the way through the film and they are replying (loudly) to every idiotic utterance).

Mrbojangles1 · 08/07/2012 20:32

Its about thoughtless parents more than banning under 5s my child loved the movies and has beeing going since he was 2 he just sits with his mouth open very nicely.

We went to see snow white and the hutsmen this family came in with 4 children who all looked under 5 including a new born

10 minutes in the children strted screaming saying they wanted leave and the film was scary which woke up the newborn who started crying

They were asked to leave and almost half. The film demaned complementy tickets

I find quite alot of parents are deluded about their childs bahviour also to those who say well its a childrens film what do yo expect well it costs around £50 to take a family of four t the pictures these days and most cinemas have mum and baby showings or early moring showings so no need to take babies or children who cant shut up to the main show which is very pricey

MrsCampbellBlack · 08/07/2012 20:37

Quite - we saw Ice Age a U film at 9.45am on a sunday morning - a few children did go to the loo I noticed and a few asked some questions but seriously it was fine.

A 9pm film is different though I quite agree.

And Ice Age isn't on in the week in the day at the moment at our local cinema - I checked as my children broke up last week.

DilysPrice · 08/07/2012 20:40

Have seen many a shite kids' film greatly improved by a pertinent observation from a 3 year old at a key moment.

Small Children in children's films generally OK, but not in the evening showings and if they're only 2 and their behaviour is hit and miss it is sensible and good form to stick to the Saturday kids' club.

There is a special circle of hell reserved for parents who take their 3 year old's in to see 12As which will bore/scare them just because they can't be arsed to get a babysitter/wait for the DVD.

Mrbojangles1 · 08/07/2012 20:44

Dily i know its just lazy parenting and not only did they not see the film they scared their children and spoiled it for evey one else

WhereYouLeftIt · 08/07/2012 20:46

"I think there should be more proactive staff to ask people to take noisy children out. Most places once the sceening starts the staff leave."
I absolutely agree. Are you listening, cinema managers?
