To not cook sunday tea because I don't want to

purely for these reasons,

it takes ages and I know my DS will turn his nose up and not eat, and unless I eat it the next day (i never do) it just lines the bin.

By the time I've made it I don't want it and it just sits in the microwave.

the only person who appreciates it is DP but I feel like I am neglecting him. Grin
he has asked if I'm making a Sunday dinner and I was like meeeeeeeeh' but I do feel a bit guilty Confused AIBU???

YANBU...

curiositykitten · 08/07/2012 16:46

Mreh, if it's not for you, it's not for you. We certainly don't do a traditional "sunday dinner" each week, never grew up with one either.

brightermornings · 08/07/2012 16:46

Why don't you go out for to eat?

Krumbum · 08/07/2012 16:46

If he wants a roast why isn't he cooking it? Not your job.

thestringcheesemassacre · 08/07/2012 16:48

Don't have a big roast then.
Have a bowl of pasta? Or just roast a chicken and serve with salad.

lastnerve · 08/07/2012 16:49

tbf he is working.

I'm in a constant state of 'god I'm a bad housewife/I sooo cannot be bothered'

I feel a bit less bad now.

we dont have 'sunday dinner' i couldnt be arsed with all the fuss I am having a steak pie today, but if you dont want it dont make it have something else especially as you are fed up after you have cooked it and then dont eat,

Trills · 08/07/2012 16:51

If you have children then someone needs to feed them.

Beyond that it doesn't matter if it's "Sunday dinner" or beans on toast.

I don't get the obsession with "a proper Sunday roast" anyway.

KellyElly · 08/07/2012 16:53

I never do. If I want one I buy from Marks and Spencers and warm up :)

Mrsjay · 08/07/2012 16:54

I dont get the whole sunday roast thing either,

pumpkinsweetie · 08/07/2012 16:56

We had a pasta salad with roast chicken thrown in, it was lush and took a lot less fuss and time as a roast.
Yanbu, maybe dh could cook it?

lastnerve · 08/07/2012 16:57

LOL I'm not going to starve my child Trills.

hmm yeah and I find it weird people have it at dinner time, my mum made it at tea time 6pmish.

oh i dont ever have my dinner at lunchtime i have my dinner at teatime Wink

Hownoobrooncoo · 08/07/2012 17:00

Just get a curry in like we do.

chocolatchaud · 08/07/2012 17:00

It's just another day of the week, isn't it?

You have to feed your children in some way, but a full-on roast isn't mandatory!

Beans on toast for children and a takeaway for you and DH?

drummerswife · 08/07/2012 17:05

i made a shepherds pie today as dh is away so there's only myself and dd
we'll have the rest tomorrow
i never cook a full roast if dh is away [he works away] we have one when he comes home

SoleSource · 08/07/2012 17:47

Chicken breast, roast pots, bag of microwave steamed veg, microwave boiled pots mashed, stuffing. Wouldn't take long. I loathe cooking as you can tell Grin

deliciousdevilwoman · 08/07/2012 17:56

OOoh, I love a roast on a Sunday-and occasionally, even mid-week! I don't always like the faff of cooking it, but generally do-albeit in the evening.

A roast Sunday lunch was a tradition I grew up with. Having it at a gastro pub is never as enjoyable-they always skimp on the roast potatoes which is the best bit!

Krumbum · 08/07/2012 18:30

Yeah so your job is to look after the children. All house duties should be split 50/50.

Shullbit · 08/07/2012 18:56

If it isn't for you, then it isn't. Cook something for you and DC that you will both enjoy and get DP a micro Sunday Roast in :o

Although, I do think all you lot who don't see what the big deal is are weird Wink. I really, completely and utterly LOVE a Sunday Roast with all the trimmings. But, I am a freak and love cooking I fail at baking though. Woe

I don't, however, grasp why many eat it so early. We eat at 5/5.30ish every day no matter what day it is.
