To be peed off about going from weekly pay to monthly?

Just been told going to go from being paid weekly in cash to monthly paid into bank. Bit annoyed as means will have to go all of August with none of my wages. Just in time for the bloody school holidays with 3 kids to entertain and school stuff to buy!!!!! Gonna be stuck at home doing nothing and feeling sorry for myself. :-(

Can you ask at work whether there's something they can do about that? Companies will often stagger it.

I used to love weekly wages. In cash. Nothing like it for cheering you up on a Friday afternoon.

It's a single restaurant, not some big company with a hr department, so don't think they will be able to do much. Just annoyed at not much notice, they have just had inland revenue check so think that's prompted this, I'm on the books so not a problem there although not sure if everyone is! Just if it was say 3 months notice I could have put a bit aside to tide over

Can your work not help with the transition period?
When my work moved from weekly to monthly pay they provided short term salary advances to employees to help them with the switch over. Maybe speak to your boss or hr?

It does seem unfair to expect you to just to deal with it, especially during school hols when you might have uniforms ect to buy.

Sorry xp, still worth speaking to the boss I think.

I really do think it's worth speaking to the boss. Would you be able to manage on half pay weekly until you get paid - would you be able to do that for a couple of months? If not, could you arrange for your bills to be spread out a bit?

Perhaps you could negotiate being paid 2 weeks in advance and 2 in arrears? Then the first pay-slip would be that bit closer.
