To think the police are twats

It's the second time now, they've done major damage to my car by arresting someone up against it. The first time i was sat in the vehicle and heavily pregnant. Not that they knew this of course. I know they have to arrest people and these things happen. The problem i have is the first time, if i hadn't of been sat in my car at the time, i wouldn't of known how the damage had occured. Also the damage caused to my car last night, our next door neighbour text us, otherwise we'd of thought it was vandals.

AIBU, to think that if police damage your property they should just leave a note to say contact the police station?

I've now got to faff around to sort this out today and i've got to cancel my plans because the car is undrivable, the wing mirror is fucked, i'm not happy.

One was abused by armed response officer who got his licence removed, she was the principle of a college. Another worked as a carer and volunteer as a brown owl, now works in a supermarket. People from different walks of life abused by Police officers.

I have no criminal record.

One thicko logging domestic abuse, logged it as nothing when I chased up why nothing was happening to perpretrator, he didn't find it abusive mail, other professionals did along with his boss, that tells me that officer felt that behaviour was acceptable.

I believe you ASillyPhase. Two years ago I would probably have doubted it too. But bitter experience has shown me otherwise.

twofingerstoGideon · 07/07/2012 12:10

But actually I don't agree with your comment about them being thick thugs. That's a ridiculous generalisation.

VonHerrBurton · 07/07/2012 12:12

So, you call with your emergency - lets say someone is breaking into your home. There is nobody available at this precise moment because the person that would attend is sorting out a broken wing mirror from someone's car that occured when they were making a violent arrest.

I'd love to see your post if that happened to you, OP.

You seem very unlucky and incapable of seeing the Bigger Picture.

IAmSherlocked · 07/07/2012 12:13

Do you know, when I broke down once, the police pulled over to check that I was OK. Bastards Angry

Hmm

Oh, YABU by the way.

FormerlyTitledUntidy · 07/07/2012 12:15

asillyphase that last paragraph didn't make any sense. Confused

While I agree that any woman (or man) abused by someone is deserving of sympathy, I find it hard to believe that it is only police who do it, or that all police are abusive.
I find someone stupid enough to believe that Shit deserving of sympathy too.

FrozenPetisPois · 07/07/2012 12:18

I definitely don't agree with saying the police are twats! They do a very good job IMO, and for that YABU.
However, I do understand why you'd be annoyed (if my car got damaged twice with no apology I would be annoyed). I wouldn't expect an apology there and then obviously, they have better things to be doing, but afterwards yes.

JamieandTheOlympicTorch · 07/07/2012 12:18

Generalisations are wrong, as is negating peoples' real experiences of poor treatment

Krumbum · 07/07/2012 12:22

A lot of them are cunts, I've seen them viciously beat up people and arrest them over nothing, they seem to be on a power trip.
The way they treated my friend about her rape case was despicable. I don't even know what would make one human speak to another like that, and just after being sexually assaulted.
There needs to be a hella lot of changes in the police because they shouldn't be able to get away with the things they arrest us for!

helenthemadex · 07/07/2012 12:22

absolute twats every last one of them, how dare they try to uphold the law keep order and arrest people, how dare they put themselves at risk day in day out, and how dare they be human and make the occasional mistake

maybe they should have let a potential paedo, rapist or mugger escape so they didnt damage your precious car

NutmegKate · 07/07/2012 12:23

I get what is being said about sweeping generalisations but it is equally wrong to generalise the other way; i.e. " the police officers that I know are really good people therefore all police officers are really good."

I have encountered the police a few times. Some officers were lovely, others not so much. I think some people ( by no means all ) join the police because it allows them to exercise power over others.

twofingerstoGideon · 07/07/2012 12:25

You are so right, Jamie.

Haha don't be silly the police don't stop rapists, that's the fault if the victim donchaknow.

SoleSource · 07/07/2012 12:27

I have nothing but sheer admiration and RESPECT for our police force. My passport was stolen and I had to call the police station and report it. Other than that and an Uncle in the force I have never had any dealings with them.

HoneyDragonWearingLederhosen · 07/07/2012 12:27

Well yes but that comes down to people.

A thread stating all people are twats would I imagine cause people to point out examples that contradict this fact.

FedUpOfRain · 07/07/2012 12:29

YABU. Shocked at some of the comments here....

SauvignonBlanche · 07/07/2012 12:30

What a ridiculous OP! Angry
Yes, some police officers are fuckers, but a percentage of the population are.
Some are wonderful, some are mediocre, just like in any other job/ service.

littleducks · 07/07/2012 12:37

The police do make stupid mistakes (like raiding the wrong house because they got mixed up with door numbers) and should have left details for you to contact them.

I had really bad experiences with Thames valley police, so much so I remember thinking I wouldn't call them if there was a problem.

Even so I wouldn't say they are all twats. Just a select few Wink

MammaTJ · 07/07/2012 12:39

I was arrested once. I had been accused of grabbing a child and throwing her to the ground. I was 7 months prengant and was in the process of setting up a youth club for local children. The mother of this child was jealous of all I was doing though she would have been welcome to all the hard work if she could have stirred her arse.

I was stood chatting to my DD, this girl came towards her and pushed her. My DD (tae kwon do green belt) pushed her back!!

The police were lovely. Arranged for me to go to the station the next day. Made sure I was kept comfotable but explained that my arrest was the quickest way to be able to investigate and deal with the matter. Made my statement, got them to talk to the PCSOs who had dealt with previous harrassment, got them to talk to my friend who had been with me that day.

Charges dropped. The bastards!!

Krumbum · 07/07/2012 12:43

The people saying yabu appear to have no experience with the police! So are basing it on what?
Saying the police are good when they do their job, do what they are supposed to do is all well and good but thats what they are meant to be like all the time! That's what they are paid for.
But they do often do what they arnt supposed to do too, be violent and excessive, victim blame, murder people! They are never taken to court like the general population would be.
It is mostly men who go into it cos they like controlling others and having a license to be a thug.

scurryfunge · 07/07/2012 12:44

Krum, you don't half talk a load of rubbish.

Nancy66 · 07/07/2012 12:47

Krum - the police are very much brought to justice when they do wrong - the current trial of the police officer who pushed over the newspaper vendor being a case in point.

The Independent Police Complaints Commission are a very good, swift-acting and effective organisation - far more so than any other public sector governing body.

Krumbum · 07/07/2012 12:47

Oh ok. Burn!
