to have never seen a 'graduation' photo for pre-school before?

Tonight a couple of old school firends have posted photos of their 4 yr old DCs who finished preschool today - in full graduation robes, mortar board and scroll. I was a bit and I have never seen or heard of this before - is this new? is it another Americanism brought over to the UK?

Before anyone asks, no, I'm not bothered by it, just very curious as to whether this is new or if I've had my head under a rock until now!

I've just re-read my post, I'm not ridiculing anybody. What i mean is my post wasn't directed at specific poster.

It seems a harmless, if batty, idea, but I have honestly never ever heard of this, ever. Does anyone here live in London? DD left nursery last year, and no child I have ever met has ever done this

Oh my, no! You Londoners are far too sophisticated. Only provincial types and we unwashed Irish would ever consider it.

I've seen several, and I dislike them. I shouldn't, but I get the need to hoist my judgy-pants when they crop up >_

We were emailed pics of our children on the last day at kindergarten - they did a group shot of all the leavers, but I think the whole 'graduation'-style photo thing is ridiculous

DS had one when he left nursery. They all wore little mortar boards and when their name was called they walked up to receive their box of work and photos.
The nursery then put on some music and we all stuffed our faces with food that was supplied and some people cried.

Really didnt think there would be cause for such dislike.
