To think tennis players can show the footballers what a sportsman REALLY is?

I watched the Euros with cries of 'oh they were so tired', 'many had cramp with having to play extra time' 'bad weather meant training was difficult'

Blah blah blah

Have seen some amazing tennis this week, people leaping about, doing fantastic things, playing for hours, being disrupted by weather/roof etc.

Surely if youre a trained sportsperson you should be able to do your job without bloody complaining. I love the dcs watching tennis (and the rugby) where there seems to be less excuses

Kind of goes against your argument of just getting on with the job if they can be disrupted by weather.

Footballers, as real athletes, don't mind getting a bit wet unlike the precious tennis players (being facetious to show the ignorance of the op)

FriskyMare · 06/07/2012 19:00

You should watch the Tour de France. Now thems real sportsmen.

Centre court has a cover!!

mosschops30 · 06/07/2012 19:15

Not being able to play in the rain is to do with safety and the physicality of the game, plus the damage to the grass.
Nothing to do with the sportsmen not liking it.
So i think you'll find tis you who are ignorant thank you!

Not playing in the rain is to do with the ball, soggy balls are heavier and don't bounce!

KatherineKavanagh · 06/07/2012 19:19

Safety? Footballers do it without thinking.. And what about the pitch? It also gets wrecked

Not all tennis is played on grass

nancy75 · 06/07/2012 19:20

It's the ball, not the surface.

Benefitsnomore · 06/07/2012 19:21

Footballers wear studs which stop them falling over. Tennis players don't.

FootballFriendSays · 06/07/2012 19:23

Viz top tip: pretend you're Andy Murray. Take your wife and Mum in to work.

FuckityFuckFuck · 06/07/2012 19:24

I thought you were going to talk about the attitude of tennis players v footballers

I might have agreed with you if you had.......

KatherineKavanagh · 06/07/2012 19:25

All this time and nobody has thought to design an all weather tennis ball

KatherineKavanagh · 06/07/2012 19:26

And whilst they are at the drawing table designing a ball, a gag or something for the noisier players would be useful

EdithWeston · 06/07/2012 19:33

They're doing less than they used to.

Remember when the top players used to be in both the singles and the doubles. The match load that McEnroe had at Wimbledon far outstrips today's competitors who go for only one event.

mayorquimby · 06/07/2012 19:46

The point of my post was to be intentionally wrong and ignorant to highlight the ultimate pointlessness of comparing two sports and also to mirror your broad and seemingly uninformed opinions on football ( not to mention rugby if you think that has less cOmplainig than football) while we're at it tennis allows each player an amount of sanctioned complaints against the umpires calls in their challenges, so plenty of complaining there

Birdsgottafly · 06/07/2012 20:42

I wonder why tennis players have so much trouble keeping their tempers in check. Football and Rugby is more of a testosterone charged game, yet they manage to not kick the linesmen.

DreamingofSummer · 06/07/2012 20:49

You cannot be serious

Tennis players get to sit down every two or three minutes, have flunkies to bring them drinks, get umbrellas held over their heads and can nip off to the loo during the game.

Oh and they can have their mum as their coach and chief lemon sucker

Yeah - really tough.

MakeHayAndSneeze · 06/07/2012 20:56

edithwestern Serena Williams is in the final for both singles and doubles. I think there's usually many players who give themselves two rolls of the dice (Andy Murray has done it himself in the past).

I've personally never liked comparing sports - such different demands - but surely lawn bowls must be the pinnacle of sporting prowess. Grin

MakeHayAndSneeze · 06/07/2012 20:57

Sorry, EdithWeston Blush

paticker · 06/07/2012 21:06

YABU You can't be serious, tennis players sit down for a break every couple of games.

EdithWeston · 06/07/2012 21:14

I'd forgotten about the Williamses. But it is far rarer nowadays.
