To think my friend is little bit mad?

We're in the Middle East and the temp is in the 40's everyday and she tells her 13yo DD to work on her tan.

I can't decide whether I'm justified in being a little Hmm at her encouraging her DD to spend a considerable amount of time in the sun with a very low SPF cream or none at all.

She must KNOW the dangers of too much exposure to the sun without adequate protection.
Am I BU to let it bother me or is she BU for not teaching her kids how to enjoy the sun safely?

My mum is that kind of mum (dad is also obsessed with 'getting a colour') and my skin has been very damaged from years of being taken to hot countries with low factor sunscreen. We have skin cancer in our family too but my parents get quite angry with me for not trying to get a tan.

I have had to go to mole mapping and skin tests at the royal free where they have shown me the damage. When i saw it under the special lights i nearly wept.

What i never understand is, surely if you are that vain, you would be more bothered about aging. Confused

YANBU.

My mum got skin cancer when she was in her 40's. 10 years later she died from it.

Your friend is stark raving bonkers. Poor girl is being set up for a life of wrinkles and possible skin cancer, so will she be pushing her into the plastic surgeon to have the wrinkles pulled tight so she looks "pretty" too.
